The three 24.1-inch NEC LCDs are now in house, though sans stand at the moment. For some reason, 9xmedia expressed interest then dropped out of contact. Too bad. Their expandable, independently rotating three-fer looked impressive. Personally, I'd opt for three Ergotron (www.ergotron.com) LX desk or wall mounts for these puppies. We may still go that way if the Ergoindemand 24-inch stand is bothered by the extra tenth of an inch that these monitors measure horizontally.
Still no PSU, so I took a trip down to Weirdstuff (www.weirdstuff.com) in Sunnyvale, CA to recycle some old cases and gaze at the antiques (Mac, Ataris, etc.) If you're up for a blast from the computer past (with usable, purchasable stuff), it's a great place to visit when you're in the bay area. It was then off to Fry's were I got a incredible deal on an admittedly outdated, but still viable Abit IB9 to replace an ersatz motherboard on my main testbed. Frys didn't have any of the new 2xxx Core 2 Duos for some odd reason. For the price, those are some spunky little CPUs, though not in the same league as the QX9775s one of you will be winning.
There's been quite a bit of discussion about the taxes on a $30,000 PC. I won't lie--they're bound to be fairly steep. But as much as it pains me to say it, you can break up my labor of love (and monetary recompense!), sell of a couple of parts and still have a super kickin' system.
Tip o' the day -- Tower Hobbies sells a precision 7/32 nut driver ($3.99 plus shipping) that's perfect for the hex-head screws on the old-school IBM Model M (clackity-clack) keyboards. I own three of these antique, buckling spring units and they're by far the sturdiest, classiest road to carpal tunnel. Alas, all three needed a bath something fierce, howeve, till now I lacked a nut driver or socket with a wall thin enough to fit into the screw wells. I wash the keyboards with soap and water, but they have to then be completely dry before reuse. Electronics and water are generally compatible--electricity and water are not!!! Unless you disassemble them, moisture can hang out for weeks.
More when I actually have some noteworthy Dream PC news...
