PC World Goes Blue

Posted by kellie Oct 19, 2007

You may have noticed some new colors on PCWorld.com and our forums. We are trying an experiment by changing all of our links from red to blue. It's just something that we're trying out, and we're looking for your feedback on it. Please tell us if you like it more or less, if you noticed or didn't notice the change, etc.

We also added a darker grey background to the sides of the page. We hope that these changes make the page easier for you to read.

This also gives us the flexibility to use the red color for very hot stories, if we want to.

Click around the community and website, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Hi Kellie. I just noticed it and I am fine with the blue hyperlinks. Shoot, I would be happy with any color. :-)

Hi Kelley,
The blue and grey are a lot easier on the eyes, but It'll definately take some time getting used to. The two colors contrast very well, though I'll miss the red for a while :-(

Kellie, Hi. Blue is a cool, soothing color. Maybe it'll soothe some of the people who "flame" about stuff...! I'm loving the new look, but I'm with TechyGuy: I'll miss the red. Bye Bye, Red, it was nice to know ya... :-D

Well, the blue is not for-sure permanent, we're just trying it out. So far, most people seem to like it though.

if you keep them are you going to turn the head banner blue?

At first I thought something had gone wrong with my machine. It was red, I went to another tab, came back and it was all blue. I decided to leave it to later as I was responding to posts and it still worked. Then I noticed you blog and realized I hadn't gone off the farm.

Now, the Banner needs to stay red. The printed copy would be as catchy.

No. Not that I'm aware of, at least.

Wasn't it this morning that I logged in and noticed the change, or was it yesterday? BTW, Blue is my FAVORITE color.

Maybe the colours should change for the seasons - red/green near X-mas, Light Blue for winter, yelloww/purple/light greaan for spring, red f/ summer, orange f/fall.

It works great for me. Fits right in with my theme from AlienGUIse http://www.alienware.com/intro_pages/invader.aspx it matches my colors well.

That would be AWESOME, and then we could have christmas trees or bells with mistletoe all around the page or somewhere just for Christmas. Sorry for all you guys here for having to read this.

But that would certainly leave out our friends who don't celebrate Christmas.

Ok, so we leave out a few who don't celebrate Christmas. Ah, what about the holidays THEY celebrate that the ones who celebrate Christmas are left out of? I mean, I don't celebrate Hanaka or Ramadan, but I support COMPLETELY the ones who do celebrate those Holidays. Guess just wondering why we have to change Christmas to suit everyone but we don't change any of the other holy holidays to suit everyone. That's what America is all about, you are FREE to worship or not worship when, how, who and where. Not trying to sound preachy but just wondering is all. The colors are great. Why don't we put Christmas trees on, or pumpkins or whatever they put up for Hanaka. :-)

I'm not proposing that we change the look for every known holiday. In fact, I'm proposing the opposite. No changes for the seasons or holidays. I'd say our time is better spent improving the site and making new features than changing the color scheme every week. Wouldn't you?

(If you'd like to discuss Christmas and other holidays, and societal attitudes toward them, let's do so in General Talk.)

Ouch! It's pretty hard on the eyes on low quality LCD monitors.
