Today, we launched a major re-vamp of PCWorld.com. Most of the changes are internal, behind-the-scenes stuff that you won't notice and probably don't care about. But there are some changes that you will notice --

1) Some of the site navigation is changed, including moving "hardware reviews" and "software reviews" into one "reviews" page, and adding Blogs back to the top header of the site

2) The downloads section has an entirely new look, designed to match the redesign of the Shop & Compare section that we did a few months ago.

3) We changed how content is pulled and displayed on each of the index pages (the pages that are linked on the top and side navigation from the home page).

We welcome comments/suggestions/criticism but are most interested in bug reports. If anyone sees anything out of place, that doesn't function, etc, please post a reply here or start a thread in the Web Site section.

Thanks... let us know what you think!

I really do hate to rain on the parade, especially considering that no one else has posted yet, but the color design seems to look out of place when taken in context with the rest of the site. On the other hand, I'm sure part of it is just that I'm used to the old theme. Is the color scheme fairly final? It would seem that something either darker or something red would work better, but that's just my opinion. However, you've done a good job streamlining and updating the section, and it actually loads a lot faster than the old one, so kudos!

Thanks for posting. Yeah, I think it is pretty final. It's meant to go with our Shop & Compare section, which has been that color for about 6 months now. Glad you like it otherwise, though!

Ah, I don't spend much time in that section at all, so I didn't make that connection, but thanks!

Thanks! But I did practically nothing. There are a whole bunch of internal people that have been working on this for many months. Like I said, most of the changes are internal to our behind-the-scenes tools, and they were pretty radical.

Yes, I am at home, and yes, it's a "day off". Have a great boat ride! It sounds lovely.

The format is very servicable but at first glance seems to be somewhat cluttered. Hell has a cold spell when I don't download at least two or three trial apps from PCWorld each week so I think I found the site, someway, before you announced it! I've already used it several times.

1) Program developers/companies are no longer listed, making direct contact with an author's web site impossible.
2) The various and numerous fonts, and the mis-match of colors, are not accessible as required by federal law. You wouldn't want to discriminate against people with disabilities, now would you? Considering PCW's 'standing', a failure to comply would need to be scrutinized by the feds should they be made aware of it.
3) I know everyone needs to make a living, but by so directly linking your sites and styles to shopping, you significantly weaken your objective reputation.

I like the sight, you did a great job. I would like to see more or better screen shots of the software though. Thanks for the streamline site!
