Continuing the trend of posts about getting value out of your printer, ITBusiness has posted an excellent article with a few seemingly obvious – but worth repeating – ways to save money on inkjet cartridges. A few highlights? Don’t print out an entire webpage to get a few lines of relevant text, unless you want to waste your valuable Canon printer ink on printing out Canon banner ads. Use ad blocking software to get rid of the ads, or use your browser’s ability to highlight and print only selected areas instead. Or cut out the printing altogether and send the document to your phone!

Google has released its own web browser named "Chrome". Google claims
their new browser combines a minimal design with sophisticated
technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. Though its only
out in beta for Windows XP/Vista users , Linux and Mac folks will have
to wait a little longer.
Well, lets take a look and see what its all about shall we...
As seen in my video walk through the installation was quick. It did ask
to import my Firefox bookmarks which It didn't allow initially since I
had Firefox running at the same time.
My impression on its performance and speed
Opening
the browser was quick, then again I had no bookmarks and hadn't used it
yet. However as I visited more and more pages the initial response to
opening them was always faster than what I am used to in any other web
browser. In other words there was little lag overall. Every tab you're
using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it
won't take anything else down. You also have the ability to end the
process and kill off individual items such as a flash video player
using a built in google task manager.
My impression on GUI (Graphic User Interface)
The
interface is indeed streamlined. Keeping with the minimalistic view and
menu options I scrambled to find all the options and icons that I was
used to seeing in IE and Firefox. One thing for sure the default theme
is the only theme, you cant change it. To access your bookmarks you
need to go to the far right and click "Other bookmarks" which is
different.
The browser buttons given are BACK, FORWARD, RELOAD
and BOOKMARK. I whent into the options to add the HOME icon and that
was it. If your wanting a STOP, HISTORY or PRINT button they arent
there. You will have to access the History using the alternative
methods such as CTRL+H and print a web page using CTRL+P. I did like
the default open full screen look that gave me more viewing area.
Along
the top the familiar tabs are of fixed width and can be easily added or
removed, dragged and dropped. These dynamic tabs allow you to gather
multiple tabs into one window or arrange your tabs however you wish.
When you open a new tab it shows your most visited websites, recently
visited bookmarks, and recently-closed tabs and full history. One thing
I didnt find along the top was the search box like in Firefox. Instead
the URL field is used as the search, keeping with minimizing options
and clutter. My impression on features
For
web developers I was delighted to see that in the view the page source
option Google shows it in multiple colors with line numbers and if you
use the "inspect element" it displays the code used on a page in great
detail.
Like "InPrivate" browsing, a feature in IE8 beta 2,
Chrome's "Incognito" browsing feature allows you to surf the Web
without leaving any history behind. This feature is also referred to as
the "porn mode" for browsing.
The download bar doesn't indicate progress, it just shows a megabyte number.
Without
any add-ons for it Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a
suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website. Over its a good start, lets hope they fix all the known security vulnerabilities.
i read all these articles from many different sources and come to the same conclussion, people cant be creative.
1) they recommend stuff everyone already knows about
2) you mention a new product they feel they should write an article on it and get credit for it
3) they try and recommend products they never used
4) the products they recommend arent the best of their category
5) they have no business writing articles.
funny i read an article earlier about free software and this editor is recommending a product that pcworld has tested to be the worst product of its kind. so basically they are recommending you use the inferior product or they know nothing about software and dont even follow whats going on, on the same website they work for.
i also notice most companies that write articles for a living have mods and admins. this is fine except they hire the ones who think they are better then everyone else, allow those like them to say whatever they want, then delete posts or block those who respond.
in the end ive come to the conclussion that most online are
1) out of touch with reality
2) have a superiority complex
3) forget or wish to deny who they are in real life
anyone who is hurt by words needs mental help and anyone who takes what someone says online seriously needs to be put in an insane asylum. truth hurts but truth is reality and people need to wake up and accept reality.
First lets start with the problem shooting. Let's assume you have Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 already installed. You have downloaded beta 2 and it tells you to remove beta 1. The problem is you can't find an uninstalled for beta 1. Do you give up on beta 2? no here's a simple trick.
you will need
unlocker
go to program files (not windows files) and use unlocker on internet explorer. Delete the whole folder with all the files in it. After that go run the installer of beta 2 which you will find now installs. follow process then reboot.
Now the new features
there like in beta 1 is very few new things.
1) is their new safety option which allows for instant deleting of history another is "in private browser" which kinda reminds me of firefox's current anti-phishing but slower and not as detailed. I also noticed it causes the browser to crash from time to time
2) is the added suggested favorites which is supposed to compete with firefox places. i dont like either so im not going into detail over it. basically it puts your favorite bookmarks in one simple location.
they seem to have removed the emulate ie7 feature as well.
the look and feel still has ie7 on it so basically its e7 with ie8 beta one features (minus emulate ie7) as well as the added safety features and a suggested favorites features.
after using it i came to the conclussion i was right to begin with. ie8 seems to be 2 years behind firefox 3.0.
here's a new product for everyone called Readon Internet TV. it shows both pay and free stations for free. many movies, but word of caution is it also contains adult channels like playboy tv. So only allow kids to use it if your watching over them
most are familier with comodo firewall and a lot are familiar with comodo boclean as well as their antivirus. but there is more then those three. so leaving out the obvious three here are some other free comodo products that can help you
1) Comodo Registry Cleaner (NEW) - in beta it does a pretty good job of cleaning registry, more so then those who use free registry cleaner. it will be interesting to see how good the product will be when out of beta testing
2) Comod Vunerability Analyzer (NEW) - this is not a new product but seems like pc world and most are still unfamiliar with this. This scans your pc for Vunerabilities then gives you the recommended actions of each product it sees as a vunerability
3) Comodo Memory Firewall (NEW) - another not so new product that most have yet to hear of. it does what the name suggests protects and monitors your pc's memory.
4) Comodo DiskShield (NEW) - shields your drive from potential danger. i do wish to tell people ahead of time that it can slow applications down that are installed on the driver that is shielded. if you choose to shield your main driver it is not recommended you add a pass because it could make programs free. please note you cant install anything on the driver that has been encrypted. it puts a sandbox around the drive.
5) Comodo Disk Encryption (NEW) - adds free encryption. enough said. you will also need a usb drive to be able to use the encryption feature.
so these are the five i have used and recommend. there is another but i have mixed reviews on called SecureEmail (NEW). what it does is encrypt your emails using their own ssl certificate which you can download for free (personal use only). it never worked on my pc and ruined my connection, but some like it. i don't recommend it so if you must try it, use with caution.
Have you ever considered how to set up your online quizzes and exams to impact learning and success? Or have you ever wondered what's the best way to use to improve blended eLearning? We explored many of the facets of online assessment, and found that the segment of score reporting leads the assessment efficiency, and usually is neglected in online assessment.
Posting the quiz to an LMS (Learning Management System, like Blackboard) might be the most efficient thing to do if we want to track and report the scores. But we know, not everyone can afford an LMS, or like to use an LMS. Instead of using an LMS to manage the quiz results, we may like to instruct the quiz to send the scores via e-mail, or a specialized reporting system. The results tracking and score reporting capability seems to be an usual requirement from most users as online assessment instructors. And the online score reporting system would be the perfect solution for effective online scoring.
Here we take Wondershare QuizCreator and its Quiz Management System for the example. The technique and included system helps users easily track results and report scores as we expected.
To enable QMS (Quiz Management System) in QuizCreator, just learn the steps below: 1. In QuizCreator, go to Quiz Properties -> QMS Settings, just enable QMS and register QMS accounts before publishing; 2. Publish the quiz in QuizCreator, and then the participants take the quiz; 3. In Quiz Management System, instructors effortlessly view quiz details, scoring statistics and analysis reports. Quiz Management System

we all know SiteAdvisor. what a lot don't know is how biased site advisor actually is since McAfee bought them out. WOT is what SiteAdvisor was before McAfee ruined them. They go not only by what others have to say (like SiteAdvisor) but also go by famous black and white lists (something SiteAdvisor doesnt do). as an added bonus WOT will not let you into a site they deem yellow or red unless you confirm it (another thing SiteAdvisor doesnt do). WOT also has the google search ratings outside the sites like SiteAdvisor does. WOT doesnt go by what a certain anti-virus has to say like SiteAdvisor does using McAfee's false positive ridden, low detection Anti-Virus. Thats why WOT chooses black and white lists instead. Its more accurate that way. Another huge advantage WOT has is it lists has 4 ratings to SiteAdvisor's one. So if a site is say yellow in WOT, u can click on the symbol and see why it is. Another downside to SiteAdvisor is they penalize a site solely for having red links. This is wrong in the fact most who go to a site don't go to the other sites which is why WOT only rates things on a site to site basis like it should be. These are the reasons WOT should be your number one Anti-Phishing and SiteAdvisor should be no more than a secondary.
Bonus: Unlocker
this is the perfect tool for removing an app that is corrupt or has become corrupt
with this combo you will get commercial detection and protection from almost all malware there is. viruses, spyware, worms, etc.
PCMag has an excellent article on getting good value on color laser printers by looking for those printers that are just past their top-of-the-line status. About a year old, that is, which means you’re still getting a good piece of equipment, but without the price hike that comes from getting the brand new models.
The article lists out several good buys, including laser printers from Konica, Brother, Xerox and Hewlett Packard. If you’re in the market, I highly recommend checking these models out - if nothing else, you'll get a good starting point for what you should be able to find in an affordable range.

Last night I had a really weird dream about my computer.
I dreamed that I got a BSOD, except that instead of the screen being blue it was White! There was a sign on it that said: White Screen of Death.
Then, the screen part fell off my computer. There were a couple of pieces holding it together that fell apart too and on top of the table. So, I picked up the pieces, looked at them, and I figured out how to put them back together. And I was trying to hook them back up to my screen, but just then I woke up!
What?? What does it all mean???
I'm still quite puzzled about it.
Gateway's dedication to customer service and affordable quality products always made them 'stand out of the heard' for me. My first experience with Gateway dates back years ago when we got our first digital camera. The digital camera was 4 megapixels and worked great. One day as many things do after years of use it stopped working. I called up gateway with no warranty information on hand and was worried that like most pc related customer service these days that they would give me the run around. The phone call was the best customer service I have ever received. They picked up on the first few rings, and easily looked up the information for me on the camera. The warranty was still valid and they had no problem with replacing it. The camera I received had some problem with the picture quality and they then sent me a new camera sealed in box. After that I decided that the next computer I wanted to deal with would be a Gateway because I trusted them.
Unfortunately, very recently Acer bought them out. I knew that my current brand of choice was bound to take a turn for the worse, and so it has. I have had my heart set on the most economical tablet pc I could find. Then I read here at PCWorld that Gateway Direct has shut down, and will only be selling through 3rd party establishments now. Selling directly online was the foundation of Gateway. I had often passed their large building in South Dakota delighted to see the outside painted like their logo with cow spots.
I was still looking forward to buying my tablet pc from a 3rd party. One day I go to the website to take a look at the computer and find out where I can get it, and can find no tablet pc’s on the site. They are out of stock with no plans of restocking the line. I also found out that many of their employee’s careers have also been discontinued. AzureAbyss at tabletpcreview.com had an online chat with a Gateway representative inquiring over the status of the tablet pc’s. You can view the transcript in its entirety here. The representative expressed confusion in why upper management would cut their something that has the “greater market share in the tablet pc industry than any of its competitors... its our strongest product per we originated the technology... so i cant imagine the guy up top would cut that product in general.“ They said that their may be a high-end tablet in retail stores by the end of the quarter, but honestly I don’t know if I trust the company anymore. To quote the former employee “it was nice while it lasted.”
Thanks for all the years of quality service Gateway, you were truly one of a kind.
