You can have a blog of your own right here at PC World. Use it to share your thoughts, opinions, favorite links, or just talk about whatever interests you. Starting your own blog is simple.
- Sign in to PCWorld.com. If you are not a registered member, you must register on the site in order to create a blog. To register, click "Join Us" in the upper right corner of the red banner at the top of PCWorld.com. To sign in, click "Sign In" in the upper right corner of the red banner at the top of PCWorld.com.
- Once you are signed in, come to the community. You can do this by clicking "Forums" in the red banner at the top of PCWorld.com, or you can come directly to http://forums.pcworld.com.
- Select "Your Stuff", located on the black bar at the top of the community page (below the image of our latest magazine issue). Select "Profile" from the drop down menu under "Your Stuff"
- This will take you to your profile page within the PC World community. On the right side, you will see a box labeled "Your Blogs". Within that box will be a link titled "Create a Personal Blog". Click that link.
- Select a name for your blog, as well as the address you wish for your blog. The address will be http://forums.pcworld.com/blogs/______ (what is in the blank after /blogs/ is up to you.) Write a description for your blog. This will show on your blog page. When you are done, press submit.
NOTE: You may experience an error message that says "System Error. The specified blog was not found." However, you will see that the URL of that page ends with "created=true". This means that your blog was created, and the error is incorrect. This is a current bug that we are working on. Your blog was created.
To verify that your blog was created, select "Your Stuff" from the menu across the top of the community screen. Select "Profile" from the "Your Stuff" menu. You will now see your blog's name where the "Create a personal blog" link previously was. You will also notice a "blogs" tab in your profile, and a "Blogs" item in the "Your Stuff" menu.
Writing a Blog Entry
To write an entry in your new blog, select "New" and then "Blog" from the menu across the top of the community screen. This will take you to a page to make a blog entry, import content, manage comments and trackbacks, etc. Press Submit when you are done, and your blog will be posted!
NOTE: blogs are best used to express personal opinions or tell stories. They are not the best format for asking technical questions. Those are best when posted as discussions marked as questions
Have fun creating your own blog!
