There have been several recent Discussions where members state that his or her computer immediately restarted after a major issue
(such as one that would bring on the dreaded Blue Screen of Death - BSoD). The information listed within the BSoD is essential in the troubleshooting process. The information could reveal something as small as a memory issue or something as significant as a hard drive failure.
There is a very easy way to prevent this from happening in the future. The steps are relatively the same in both Windows Vista and Windows XP:
Windows XP
- Right Click on My Computer and select Properties
- Click on the Advanced tab
- Under the Startup and Recovery section, click on Settings
- Under the System Failure section, remove the check mark in the box next to Automatically restart
- Click OK twice to complete the process
Windows Vista
- Right Click on Computer and select Properties
- Click on Advanced System Settings
- Under the Startup and Recovery section, click on Settings
- Under the System Failure section, remove the check mark in the box next to Automatically restart
- Click OK twice to complete the process
