Best Single Function Printer?

I am looking for a high-ended single function printer that will print excellent text documents in b/w or color and excellent photos but I do not want any of those multi-function all-in-ones that also come equipped with several applications. I already have an excellent stand-alone photo editing application. Thanks.

These are Wikis (what were called Documents under the old forum software) that correspond to this forum. They will generally explain how to deal with some common issues that have been previously discussed (some times multiple times) in the Printers forum. The idea is that these documents might offer a solution to a problem that you might be having without you having to ask a question in the forum.
Please feel free to take a look at them. And if you have a new document that you believe might be of value, then feel free to take a stab at adding it to the selection of Wikis/Documents.

Printer Recommendation

I am in the market for a new printer. I currently have an HP and the thing thats driving me crazy is every time I try and print even though there's paper in it, it tells me that there isnt any paper. I was looking for a printer that has an actual paper tray you put paper in. I wont be doing anything dramatic like an office setting, just a home user printing directions and what not some other documents with a few pages and maybe some photos. also if the option is there maybe print directly onto CD's DVD's?

Brother Mfc-290c Help Needed

Got a Brother MFC-290C running off of Win XP.

No matter what I do, I can't get it printing worth a hoot. Printing is so fine it's illegible on the paper.

What I did was increase the brightness, and tone. No soap. I also used inkjet paper. No soap.

I did order black, blue, yellow, and red containers off Ebay.

Is Ebay ink that bad for printers? Or, do I have something else simple I'm overlooking?

I'd sure like for it to be something simple I'm missing. Please advise

Hp Printer Problems

Last year I bought a new HP desktop and, with it, an HP C4480 printer. Since the original installation, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the new (downloaded) driver. It worked better ---- but only better.
The other day I tried to print a photo that I had downloaded and printed before. After about 20 minutes, it was still loading the photo, so I tried to stop loading the photo into the printer and eventually had to kill the power to the printer (for 15 minutes), uninstall and reinstall it.
This time it worked OK.
This is not the first time it has behaved this way, with the solution being to reinstall it. @#$%^!!!!!
When my next Social Security check comes in, I'm going to throw this piece of junk into the nearby lake and buy a Canon!!!!
