Plasma Vs Lcd With Pc

Ok, so I feel like I've done my research but now I'm confused again. I started out thinking I wanted an LCD to use for our media center in our living room. But after talking to our local geek friend he said that he is switching to plasma. He seems to think now that the technology has improved and with the use of non-burn out software you can use your pc with plasma no problem. It is tempting because you can get more tv for the price going with plasma. Anyone going for plasma instead of LCD while using their PC? I keep reading really old forums about this topic and I want to know what the thoughts are nowadays. I don't want to be careful about not leaving my computer on (start menu, icons, etc) because, honestly, I will just forget to turn it off.... I will definitely put the normal screen saver on but is that enough?

Sometime in the past few months, I read a small review of a SlingBox-like device that was recently developed. It was more expensive than a Slingbox, but looked attractive. Does anyone know of such a unit, and what are the pros and cons? Thanks.

I've got a problem with Leon: The Professional which I bought new at a store. I watched it once before with no problems. I went to watch it a second time last night and the menu had sound, but the movie itself has no sound. It does the same thing in my dvd player (just a cheapo) and my computer dvd drive (I was using windows media center to play it.)

It seems like this would be a dvd disc problem, but I'm at a total loss for how that would happen. I can't remember where I bought it either, so returning it may not be possible. Any help would be appreciated.

What Devices Available To Record Digital Tv Shows?

Hello,

I did some online research for digital timeshift recording devices. i.e.
Digital VCRs, DVRs etc. But all these items are either very expensive or
require some sort of subscription service.

Why can I find a good analog VCR for $50, but nothing functionally
equivalent for digital recording? Are there any stand alone devices that
will record a digital signal from both cable and over-the-air at a
reasonable price, with no subscription?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Lg Flatron M227wd Problem

Greetings.

My family has recently purchased a lovely LG LCD television. Unfortunately, it has already proven to be faulty. The situation is delicate, so I assume it would be wise to explain everything in detail.

This LCD has a "Plug & Play" function. Today I decided to connect the LCD to my computer and watch a movie. Both the LCD monitor and the PC were plugged into the electrical network. I picked up the cable that connects the PC to the LCD. I connected the cable to the LCD. Just when I was about to connect it to the PC, a power surge occurred. I dropped the cable and immediately disconnected both of the appliances from the electrical network. No harm was done to me. And to the PC, apparently - I cleaned up the socket and plugged my computer monitor in - it works. The cable that connects the PC to the LCD, though - it's garbage now. The side that is supposed to connect to the PC has melted. Oddly enough, the other side of the cable (which was connected to the LCD at the time of the power surge) is completely unharmed.

The problem with the LG LCD television is: when I attempt to turn it on, it's in power saving mode and pressing the buttons on the remote control doesn't help (I've checked the remote control batteries - they work). The power indicator (a diode of some kind) is normally blue when the LCD is on. It is currently amber/orange. The only information about this "power saving mode" (I assume this mode is something like a "Standby" mode) in the LCD user's manual is this:

"Does the power indicator look amber?
If the product is in power saving mode, move the mouse or press any key."

Obviously, this isn't much of a help for me - I can't "move the mouse", because my PC isn't even connected to the LCD television. And, as mentioned, pressing the remote control keys is ineffective.

My questions are: could this be caused by the power surge? Or is it an easy fix?

(Apparently the people at the electronics store refuse to take the charges for the fix... Possibly because I, myself, was the one who *unintentionally* broke the LCD.)

Buying 2 Dvd Drive & Capabilities

I'm looking for some help on buying a couple of DVD drives.
I'm building a computer. I don't know very much about DVD drives and am looking for a good place to start since there are so many of them out there.
I want 2 DVD drives to put in my computer to give me the following capabilities:
1: To burn files from one disk directly to another, in order to save time of putting the files on my hard drive first.
2: Also, to run programs from 2 disks simultaneously. I.E. playing music from 1 CD and a game from another one.

I also want one of the drives to have Blue Ray capability so I can play movies on Blue Ray. I would prefer not to have that on both drives, since money is a factor. I also want something that is fast, and will last me a long time. Also, does SATA help with DVD drives?

I don't know if certain drives are incompatible with another (I.E. they won't run at the same time) since I don't know that much about DVD drives.
I'm looking to spend less than 200$ for the whole thing if that's possible to do and still get what I'm looking for. Most drives look like they range from 20-200$. I'd rather not spend "unnecessary money" if that makes sense.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Iptv: The Lost Dream

IPTV was essentially supposed to be the entire contents of Internet media on your TV set. That idea went somewhere, and not to a good place. Even when AT&T and Verizon promised to deliver IPTV, they structured it like cable. These are some reasons why IPTV should be at its fullest:

1) It would give the world the convenience of being able to watch their favorite shows whenever they want. This may already be being done with cable and satellite on-demand channels, but it's not what we want. Convenience is what counts.

2) When the Internet is involved, people of different ethnicities can watch TV being broadcast via the World Wide Web from their home countries. This is a big one. Current languages are typically English, Spanish, and French on cable and satellite recievers. They may have packs of channels of different languages with satellite, but you have to pay for those. With true IPTV, they would be included.

3) IPTV not only enables those convenient things, it can also breed a whole new class of celebrities. IPTV could allow people to beat the odds of becoming a star. They won't need to get hired; they could just post and go. If IPTV becomes mainstream, expect to see more stars than you ever did before, and from all over the world, not just Hollywood.

How Can I Watch Internet Videos On My Tv?

I would like to change my current cable subscription to the basic channels and watch what I'm losing on Hulu. My PC desktop is in one room and the TV is in another. I do have a DVR that I rent from the cable company, which I plan on keeping. I thought I would list the components that I have and hopefully someone can tell me what I need to get to be able to watch Internet videos on my TV.

I Have Media Center on my computer but the tuner shorted out and I replaced it with a Hauppag tuner card. I have wireless G router, which isn't hooked up yet. I'm wondering if I need to get and Xbox or would a powerline work? Also, I don't know if I can hook up anything to the DVR since it's from the cable company or do I need to by a DVR?

I know that I can watch internet shows on my computer but It's not comfortable sitting at the desk for long periods. Any advice would be appreciated.
