My sister has an Acer Aspire One netbook with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. I know that this is not like a card, but will it support games like Mahjjong, and Hoyle Reel Deal Slots and Video Poker? (Obviously not a big time gamer!) My concern is that the computer might run too hot, but thought that a separate cooling fan would help. Adding an LCD monitor would be good, since this is the very small screen.

Confusing Grtaphic Card Power Specs

Hi,

I've been looking into VCs and find the info incomplete, at least to my understanding, when it comes to power specs.

All they say is an over-all PSU rating but some multipule many PSUs have rails.
Mine has 4ea @ 18AMPS-12V. I looked up the specs and it appears that each rail is protected at 21 AMPS.

So how can you know for sure about power ratings without having to call the vendor for any card of interest?

Waldojim built a PC for a buddy and they installed an ATI 5850. The one I looked at called for a 500WATT PSU with two available 75WATT 6 pin connectors.

Even the manufactures website isn't helpful. Sometimes they say you need 200 WATTS on the connector.
I am famular with ohms law but what is the formular to calculate?

I called ASUS concerning a card and was told it needed around 35A on the 3.3 V, around the 30A for the 5V, and 18-21 amps on the 12V.

Any guidance to understand this would be appriciated. Whatever happened to it simply saying the Amps?
Comparing numbers is easy.

This is my PSU, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817341010

Thank you for the help,
Its high time i overhauled my system. Its gonna b custom.
Need help selecting a processor. I'm a moderate gamer- thats soon gonna include Shift, GTA4, Crysis..d list goes on
Currently I'm unable to play these 'cause of my system hardware..
So any suggestions on what kind of processor might do good??
I havent selected other parts of my PC like motherboard, etc..so no restrictions on processor
Based on d processor i'm gonna get d other parts but my prime requirement is HIGH Clock Speed.
Anything above(or around) 3.0Ghz should do. Will i get this in Core2 Duo??
And lastly is Quad core & Core2 Quad different??
If yes, on which one will i get above 3.0GHz speed???

>>Thanks a lot.....

There is pci express,1.80 GH AMD Sempron processor, maxed out with 1 GB in slot A0 & 1 GB in slot A1.It also has an 80GB hard drive (I would like to increase this also). My problem is that I have never done an upgrade from integrated > graphics card and I can't seem to find any technical information on the emachine W3118 desktop at all. I know they are not made anymore, and emachine was bought out by Gateway. If anyone could clue me in on a step by step, or point me in the right direction I would deeply appreciate it.

Hello all,

It seems that my 8800GTX 768mb card is going on so now I am in search of a new graphics card (<----can't beleive I paid $550 for a card that only lasted @ 2yrs sigh).

I want to make sure that the card i go for works well with EQ2 so anyone have any suggestions on a good Nvidia Card? Want to stay within @ $100 to $300 or so never going to pay $550 for another graphics card!

I have been hearing good things about Nvidia's 200 series cards any suggestions
there? Want something that is at least current generation.

Someone also suggested that while I am at it I should upgrade my processor to get full use out of what ever new card I go with. One processor that was suggested was Intel Core2 Duo E7500 Wolfdale 2.93GHz any thoughts on this processor???

Current system is:
Windows XP
Raptor 10k rpm 150gig HD
P5N-E SLI mother board
P4 2.66ghz x2
3gigs I beleive its 833 speed memory

Thanks for the help all!

Help With Processor Upgrade

I have an Intel G33 Express chipset that I'm told will run the latest 45nm Intel processors. I currently have a Q6700 processor. Is there any performance gain going from a Q6700 to a Q9450 or the new i7-920? My primary interest is gaming. Even with the newer processors do I need to step up to a faster clock speed to see a noticeable increase over what I already have? How much better are the i7's than the Q processors? It looks as though I can get a Q9650 for almost $200 less than an i7-920. Any thoughts on this?

Memory For A Dell Dimension 4300

Hi...I was trying to help my dad get a memory upgrade for his Dell Dimension 4300 (it's running only 256MB and needless to say, is slow as molasses). The exact 256MB DIMM that he would need is out of stock, but there are other 256MB DIMMs available that match the technical specs needed (168-pin SDRAM 133 MHz PC 133), but the item descriptions say they're for other specific systems. I could still use them, couldn't I?

Also, two other questions: What's the maximum amount of RAM I could put in the Dell Dimension 4300, and if I wanted to add 512MB to it, would I be able to use a single 512MB DIMM, or would I have to get two 256MB DIMMs? Thanks!

Comparing Two Cards

Hi...I'm currently running a GeForce 9500GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 graphics card. I'm considering purchasing an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 graphics card. What I wanted to know is whether the Radeon HD 4850 would be a significant enough improvement over the GeForce 9500GT to justify the purchase. The games I'm playing most frequently right now are Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY, X3 Terran Conflict, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. These run fine on the GeForce, and I know that the performance increases with higher graphics detail wouldn't be that high with these games on the Radeon, but I'm planning on getting Star Wars: The Old Republic and/or Star Trek Online when they release, and I want to have a good card for over the long term. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
