Having Difficulty Acquiring Network Address

I have a LAN with four computers connected, three wirelessly and one by ethernet. The router is a Linksys WRT54G v.5. A few weeks ago I had Linksys help me set up the WEP security for this network. Now I'm having trouble getting one of the computers, a desktop, to connect to the network. It says it's Acquiring Network Address but it usually doesn't. Sometimes it will connect after one reconnect and sometimes it takes more than 10. It quickly recognizes my network and it has a strong signal. It just won't connect. Linksys says if three of the computers connect correctly, there must be something wrong at the problem computer. Makes sense to me.

I've been using a Belkin wireless USB adapter, so I decided to buy an additional adapter. I bought and then returned three Linksys adapters. Two connected by USB and they wouldn't work. Linksys said they were defective. Then I bought an internal adapter that connected directly to the motherboard. I couldn't get it to work either although it did detect my network. Linksys support wasn't helpful because their people apparently don't speak English that I can understand. I'm now back to the Belkin and it's intermittent connections.

What to do? (- Before I take a hammer to the thing!)

Thank you.

Lost Wirelss Reception By Changing Settings

I was recenly connected to a Linksys router sending out 802.11b, unfortunately for me I changed the settings for the router to send out 18mbps when it can only send up to 11mbps. Ever since then I have not picked up any signal at all and I do not even see the network on my receiver. I cannot physically access the router but I need some way to gain reception again, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Enhancing Wireless Reception

I have a linksys wireless-g PCI adapter and usually I can pick up a good reception, except for recently. I need to be able to pick up reception as far away as possible. I built a home-made antenna out of a pringles can and aluminum foil and it worked for a while but it soon stopped working. What can I do to pick up the reception again? Even if I get the reception at a mere 10% it would still work. Any suggestions would be grealty appreciated. Thanks!

I'm having a very similar problem. We've been losing the wireless internet connection every other day or so and it is usually fixed by restarting the cable modem, but i thought it might be time to buy a new wireless router. So I bought a Belkin N+ router and installed it. One laptop will connect, but the other BSODs if the new router is turned on (note I haven't gotten to the point of even turning the protections on yet). If I turn the wireless card off (using the manual switch) the computer will run, but if the wireless card is powered on, I get a BSOD. Note, I reinstalled the old router and the computer connects to the internet just fine (with or w/o protections).
The errors seen are:

Will 3g Wireless Networks Replace The Local Area Wireless Network?

To the word of ‘3G’, I believed that many internet users are familiar with it. Face to the 3G wireless, many internet users feel happy with the new arrival of this ‘boradband’, because after a long term of waiting, people can finally shake off the shackles of cable and enjoy the fun of the wireless internet. The more important is that people will no longer suffer the many high-handed terms made by operators. So is it true that cable broadband will be replaced by wireless broadband?
The many benefits of 3G wireless
Large number of Internet users believe that, with the leading technology, 3G wireless networks can replace the cable network and wireless LAN. The reasons are as follows:
1.	Faster network:
For the 3G wireless speed, and now we know that the rate of the three major carriers are now basically at the 3M. Through technological upgrading in the future, the speed will be much faster, and higher than the general boradband.
2.	More convenient of using:
Now, to the Internet, users must plug the Internet cable, or find a nearby wireless hotspots , while in the 3G era, where has 3G signal can it access to the Internet. To the internet users, it is more attractive to go internet by this way.
3.	The richer application:
Generally, 3G network can not only operating the existing application of the broadband network but also can rich in their own applications.
4. Lower cost to access:
Less equipment it should be used if need to access to the internet. Although the charges are still very high now, but I think that the fee will be reduced later to the price that public can accept.

Receiving Limited or No Connectivity Messages

Hi smax013:

I have a similar problem with some variations. This week all attempts to go online have been met with the "Limited or no connectivity" message. I'm only using a wireless connection (excepting my backup Netzero dial-up... like right now) and NOTHING has changed in the last year in the hardware. I have an AMD 2800+ PC, 1 GB RAM, XP sp3 (updated from sp2 in 2008) and a Hawking-based wireless RAlink 54g card with +8 db gain antenna. Same cables and hardware, PC location unchanged, no wires damaged and no other PC's networked. I'm also using Avast and Zone Alarm, and d/l XP updates by hand irregularly (I do recall a single XP update about the time I let Firefox go to 3.5.3). The local freenet is coming in 5 bars at 36-48 Mbps all this time. 2 weeks ago, the wireless wouldn't connect.

This had happened before... most times after I updated Firefox. Usually, after a week and several reboots and shutdowns, all goes back to normal. I also try the repair connection util in windoze and that sometimes helps. This time -for the 1st time- I get the "limited" message. Used the repair util several times and each time it fails with an "unable to renew your IP address" response. I turned off both firewall and AV, no effect. I used the command line "ipconfig" utils but this only confused things (some IP's changed to 0.0.0.0, and I wish I knew what they are supposed to be since I only have the one wireless IP and Netzero dialup). Went into the registry to check the various addresses there. Many different xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and subnets. Changing them caused problems (the 56k modem disappeared from the internet connections list among other things) and I went back to a saved registry from late July to recover. However the "limited" connection persists.

I've seen that MANY others have this problem from online queries. The more I look into this, the more I wonder if MS is forcing us to upgrade our OS, since they claim Win Vista/7 will stop these errors. Stangely, all the Win2000 and Win98se PC's I work on (some mine) have no such errors to connect. I'm on the verge of loading Ubantu Linux for this and other annoyances, if I could ensure a seamless change over for my games, email and social networking. Any ideas??

Now come to the point, We want to establish a Cyber Clinic in Madhya Pradesh, India. We want to treat our patients from here. Whether they are operated or new ones. For Surgery patiens should come in Gujarat, but for new patients and of course for follow-up they dont have to come in Gujarat. They will be treated at their own place. We want to establish a Cyber Clinic at 5 different places, area in Madhya Pradesh.
So, for that which kind of Software, Hardware, Routers, will be required. In a nutshell, tell me in detail what should we do to run Cyber Clinic in remote areas.
Please give me reply. As we dont have much knowledge about Computer Hardware.(Though Now-a-days I m learning Computer Hardware and Networking Course )

Internet Connection Sharing

I am working on networking three computers in our command trailer for an exercise on Saturday, so any help would be greatly appreciated (the faster the better!).

Here's the situation:
When we deploy, we need to have three computers networked together that can all access the internet. We will not know the source of the internet beforehand (could be a CAT5 cable, more than likeley some kind of wireless signal).

Our resources are 3 computers (2 HP DSC5000's and a Dell tower), a Linksys BEFSR41 wired router and a AirLink USB Wireless adapter.

I was planning on using the Dell as the 'gateway' computer (least used). I connected all three computers to the router and...success! I can see all machines and they can see me.

I installed the AirLink USB and could not get internet. When I disconnected from the router (or disabled the NIC in the Network Connections list) I could get internet.

I did a little reading and found that to share the internet connection on any pc using Windows XP, you need to have one machine with a 2nd NIC. Off to the store to get one. While there, the 'network guru' said to get a TrendNet Wireless N gaming adapter...said it would work as a 'bridge'...told me to connect it to the on-board NIC, then set the 2nd NIC to 10.32.0.1, and connect that pc (the Dell) to the WAN port on the router.

He said to set the router to IP: 10.32.0.X (?), gateway: 10.32.0.1 and DNS: 10.32.0.1. That was supposed to let the router assign any IP to the 'client' PC's.

I installed the 2nd NIC on the Dell (slowest and least used) and connected it to the router. The on-board NIC is connected to the Trendnet. As soon as I enable the 2nd NIC (router), I lose internet connection. When I disable the 2nd NIC, internet returns. When I disable the on-board NIC and enable the 2nd NIC, I can see the other computers on the router, but no internet.

The NIC's do not have any conflicts (verified in hardware manager).

When I attempt this on the other two HP's using the AirLink wireless adapter - same thing...one adapter must be disabled to allow the other to work.

I'm at a complete loss. We have a drill on Saturday where we want to showcase our command trailer. We are an all-volunteer group, so we don't have the money to hire a network guru to come to us and get this up and running. I'm as close to a geek as we have, so the Captain is expecting me to get this to work.

Does anyone have any ideas what I should be doing or what I'm doing wrong?? All machines are Windows XP pro.

Thanks in advance!!

Anti-wifi Paint

I just read an article in the news about an anti-WIFI paint you can use on your walls in your home to prevent your signal from leaving your premisies. This sounds like a good idea and also has some other features. The paint would also be helpful in stopping cell phone signals from being recieved or sent outside of any area you have painted with this aluminum-iron oxide additive to any paint. This could be useful to theather operators, hospitals, schools and any where the management decides cell phone usage to be undesireable.
