I would like to find a backup/copy program in which I can specify which file to copy by the date modified. Currently all of the files in question are located on a networked external drive. I would like to copy files that have been modified in the past six months to a new external hardrive. After that, I would like to automate a backup, maybe once a week, of the latest modified files from the new drive back to the original drive. Note that these files are located within folders, and sometimes sub-folders within these folders. Any help? Thanks.

Hello,

We all know that there are a lot of utilities out there for maintenance, and most, if not all, claim to be outstanding programs for PC's. But then again, some users give a lot of complains about some utilities because instead of helping maintain their PC, it just corrupted the registry and who-knows-what else it did. What maintenance utility do you find best?

Oh, and is Mozilla better than IE?

Looking For Hard Disk Imaging Software

I've been using DriveImageXML for my image backups. I realized today that it won't be very useful in the future if I ever need to downgrade hard drive size. DriveImageXML requires that the destination drive be at least the size of the source drive, not the size of the image.

Is there free imaging software that doesn't require the destination drive to be as big as the source drive?

Online Storage As A Mapped Drive

I'm looking for an online storage site where I can store standard business documents for work, but for the sake of simplicity for our employees, I want to be able to map this site as a drive under My Computer on our XP computers. By doing this, it becomes very easy for our employees to save documents in the common location or refer to documents in the same location.

We've done something similar to this using Hamachi with a server on site, but being in different locations, an online site would be valuable. Plus, we've had some issues with the robustness of the Hamachi solution.

Does anyone know of such a site that could be setup in this fashion?

Thanks.

Hello everyone.

I used CCleaner's Registry Cleaner on my Vista desktop and it wiped out the administrator capability on my user account. I tried changing it back, but it does not change, it remains a standard user account. I tried system restore and it just hangs there without acknowledging my request. I've waited about twenty minutes so it should have had enough time. I even tried merging back the backup file created when doing the registry cleaner but even that does not work. It gives the messaage: not all data was successfully writen to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Driver Magician Free Today Only (9/29/09)

For those who missed it first time around, Giveaway of the Day is offering Driver Magician 3.45 as a free download. It must be downloaded and installed today. You can get it at the Giveaway of the Day website. The following is a description of the program...

Driver Magician offers a professional solution for device driversbackup, restoration, update and removal in Windows operating system. Itidentifies all the hardware in the system, extracts their associateddrivers from the hard disk and backs them up to a location of yourchoice. Then when you format and reinstall/upgrade your operatingsystem, you can restore all the “saved” drivers just as if you had theoriginal driver diskettes in your hands. After one system reboot, yourPC will be loaded and running with the required hardware drivers.

What’s more, Driver Magician has a built in database of the latestdrivers with the ability to go to the Internet to receive the driverupdates. It saves lots of time to find the correct drivers and maturedrivers will obviously increase the performance of hardware. If thereare unknown devices in your PC, Driver Magician helps you detect themeasily and quickly with its built in hardware identifier database.

Key features:

Back up device drivers of your computer in four modes.

Restore device drivers from backup in one mouse click.

Update device drivers of your PC to improve system performance and stability.

Uninstall device drivers.

Live Update device identifier database and driver update database.

Detect unknown devices.

Get detailed information of the hardware drivers.

Clone all drivers to an auto-setup package (.EXE), so you can restore drivers without installing Driver Magician.

Comment:
The Good
* Automatically detects the hardware on your computer.
* You can backup your drivers in multiple different ways including to a standalone executable.
* You have the ability to include or exclude Microsoft Windows drivers.
* You can restore your backed up drivers without installing Driver Magician.
* You can backup extra things such as your registry.
* Built in tool to help you maintain your computer by updating your drivers and detecting unknown devices.
* Pretty good compression rate.

The Bad
* You need registration code and registrationname to restore drivers from the standalone executable if you don’thave Driver Magician installed; problem is you don’t get a registrationcode and registration name from GOTD to use with that standaloneexecutable.
* You cant choose the name of your backup.
* If an old backup is of the same name in the same location as your newbackup, older backup will be replaced without prompt.

Free Or Cheap Backup Software With Specific Functions

Hi,

I've been using Driveimage XML for Windows Backups for some time. It get the job done. Incremental backup would be nice but since Windows is not my primary OS and I don't have a lot of files there, it works fine. There are two things that drive me crazy though:

1. On Vista/Windows 7, Driveimage forces me to deactivate UAC and restart every single time I want to backup.
2. Driveimage cannot restore to a partition smaller than the one it backed up.

Does anyone know of a backup utility, free or less than $20, That will allow me to do full image-based backups without either of these limitations? Incremental backups would be cool too, but this may be asking to much for the price range.
