External Vs. Internal

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my HP notebook. I looking for a hard drive for extra storage and I plan to use it often. I have hard that external drives have a shorter lifetime than internals that have been enclosed to work as an external. Price does not seem to matter anymore, but externals used to be more expensive, they are about the same now. I want a 1TB drive, should I make it external or internal? And any suggestions as to brand and model would be appreciated as well.

Lacie Fw 400 Hard Drive High Rpm

i have a Lacie firewire 400 x2 external hard drive (120gb 3.5") visual reference for identification- http://farm1.static...._464fa1f682.jpg

just recently i've noticed the drive randomly revving up and spinning at a faster rpm than its quiet idle rpm (idle rpm sounds like 7200) so when revving it sounds like going to 8600-9000pm or higher

what would be the cause of such and would it be best to export the data off of that drive and to a new drive?

thanks

link to sound byte of what the hard drive sounds like when revving, listen carefully and its a .m4a file

Using On Old Internal Hd As External For Lap Top

Hi
I have just taken a Barracuda 7200.7 200GB HD from an old desk top and plan to use it as an external HD storage for my lap top. I have never attempted anything like this before so would like some guidance on what type of caddy would be best and how to set up please. Do I need a powered caddy or will it run from USB? Is trhis a wise move or would I be better off just buying a new external HD? It will be used for storing pictures and ITunes music. Thanks

Hd Benchmark Results

i have 2 hard drives. One is the main os drive and the other is used for backup. My backup drive benchmarked higher than the drive im using for my operating system. Average read time on the backup drive was 12mb/s higher and the burst speed was 60 mb/s higher. Next time i reinstall windows should i use my backup drive as my os drive. will i be able to notice a difference. Also, this is off topic but what is the current position on using 2.5 inch ssd in desktops. Is it still a realtively new thing. Should i buy a 100 dollar 32gb ssd and use that as my main os drive and put my main programs on that and put my music and games on the regular hard drive.
