OK, where's Win7boy? This is his chance to redeem himself.

lol, especially since he can now validate for free :) You guys did it right and even signed up and logged in for your NovaBench and CPU-Z validation.

I updated my BIOS Sat. and now I just noticed after looking at Snypers CPU-Z, that my multiplier is off (post #2), it shows 6 instead of 9? When I first got my MOBO, it showed my processor at a whole different version, a Pentium 4, and corrected itself after a BIOS update. Guess I'll have to change that.

Well, there are a few things I see that I don't like about NovaBench now that I look at the group of results a little closer. For one thing, the RAM score is based largely on the amount of RAM and seems to be based less on the throughput of the RAM. To me, above a certain amount (I'll arbitrarily say 4GB for today's applications, and that's on the high side) speed becomes far more important than amount. For example, a system with 4GB of RAM transferring at 6GB/sec is going to outperform a system with 16GB of RAM moving data at 4GB/sec 99% of the time if all other factors are equal. The same goes for the size of the primary partition of the hard drive. In that case, size doesn't matter at all, but speed is of the utmost importance and will affect the overall feel of the entire system to a point. However, bigger, slower hard drives tend to score higher than smaller, faster hard drives in NovaBench. Thirdly, we all know that a GTX 285 is considerably faster than a GTX 260, but look at my graphics results compared to Car's. For whatever reason, my GTX 260 slightly outperformed his GTX 285 even though in the real world, his 285 would trounce my 260. It's not uncommon for benchmarks to not necessarily reflect real-world performance, but the GPU portion of NovaBench is weighted too heavily toward one aspect of the graphics card. With a little more experimenting, we could figure out what aspect that was, but I don't have time right now- maybe a good winter project.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good little benchmark program- probably one of the better free ones that I've seen, it just has its quirks. Still, this'll be a fun thread and a good way for these guys with 'Incredible Machines' to prove themselves.

Again, some excellent observations by Snyper. :)

Snyper, why would a bigger slower drive get better marks than a smaller faster drive on NovaBench?

Car, it looks like your CPU is throttling. You probably have C1E and EIST enabled. Those two work together to drop the CPU voltage and speed (via the multiplier) to save power when the processor isn't working hard. If you disable them in the BIOS, you should see the correct multiplier.

As far as the hard drive, it's just the whim of the writers of the benchmark. They put more emphasis on size and less on speed, where I feel it should be the other way around (at least for benchmarking).

The tweak bug bit me, I massaged a little more:
NovaBench: http://novabench.com/view/27986
CPU-Z: http://valid.canardp....php?id=1458871
I'm going to break 900 yet! Maybe not tonight, but I will do it!

Thanks for that info Snyper, I'll check into changing that it in the next couple of days...sounds like your on a mission though :D

Is that part of the energy saver of the CPU, or was it when my Gigabyte BOIS Flash utility ran and then said to set the CMOS to default, that triggered the C1E and EIST to be enabled?

Both- it's an energy saving feature of the CPU, and it's also generally set to enabled by default.

by the way Snyper, I still have the Indigo Xtreme in my drawer waiting for me to try it out. :)

I've got a CNPS10X in my closet waiting for the next time I pull the motherboard out of here. I'm going to try it for a couple weeks with AS5, then some IC Diamond, and finish off with some Indigo Xtreme. I'm interested to see your results! :)

That CNPS10x is certainly a nice cooling, that is what I am using now, and keeping temps VERY manageable (using AS5) But I am using the mounting bracket and screws from the H50 - I like how they work better.

Damn nice with that OC! I keep having trouble getting past that point... and with 4 sticks of ram cannot even get TO that point. Starting to wonder where the issue is.I might try something more extreme tonight... see if it is just a FSB hole.

Thanks waldojim.

I must admit Snypertodd gave me lessons otherwise I was a lost soul.

Its been awhile since I played with it so I hope I can dig up my notes or else snyper will kill me.

I'm impressed, Rommel! Awesome score! Running 4 sticks even at 1200MHz with timings in the 7s isn't an easy feat on an AMD memory controller. Are you OCing your video card? That's a great score for a 5770, too.

WJ- I picked up that CNPS10X for $15 (almost) brand new. Actually it was a display at a store (Microcenter, IIRC) but had never been used and was in mint condition- still had the box and all the accessories with it. I couldn't pass it up...

Do you have any idea how much that makes me want to cry? I paid $45 for that thing...

STILL - GOOD NEWS! It was a GREAT BIG freaking FSB HOLE! I am currently running 3.75Ghz 250x15!!!! Running 32 Idle! getting timings under control, and validating.

I don't doubt that in the slightest, that is one heck of a board - especially given the price.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov

I'm impressed, Rommel! Awesome score! Running 4 sticks even at 1200MHz with timings in the 7s isn't an easy feat on an AMD memory controller. Are you OCing your video card? That's a great score for a 5770, too.

Thank you Snypertodd.

My card is factory OCed. http://www.zipzoomfl...ctCode=10012559

I haven't messed with the OCing tool but perhaps I will just to see what it can do for a bench test than bring it back to its factory speed.

@ waldojim:

You guys bring out new terms I have to google. FSB hole.
Nice adjustment on your rig.

Perhaps thats my block?
When my cpu was X 2 I got it around 3700. After unlocking the other two cores that number was unstable though my cores pasted a harsh CPU test.

Must admit I haven't played with voltages being that seems more destroying than tweeking other values.

I'm going to look through my folder for snypers info and remind myself of what he thought me.
