Camtasia Studio (free trial), Hypercam 2 (free version)
Those are the only two I recall using, although it's been a long while.

If you want high quality, FRAPS is the way to go. You have to buy it, but it's cheap.

Take a look at debut (look for the lite version at the bottom, it should be free)

http://www.nchsoftwa...ture/index.html

Let me know if it is only a trial and I can dig through the mirrors for the older freeware versions.
Even the experts started out as beginners

No extra requirements, but that's OK.

It appears that I should give you a one-stop solution-a gadget I have used before-to your problem.
Here is the tool- Boilsoft Screen Recorder, and it can be downloaded here: http://www.boilsoft....rder/index.html

Have a try and enjoy the recording process.

I've used Camstudio, for XP, and have enjoyed it, but if you want it to be efficient I would grab a camcorder, digital camera or web cam and set it down by your screen to record. Software screen recorders work great but require extra power. I remember using FRAPS to record my World of Warcraft Game play and it bogged my system down to a crawl. Just my advice and good luck.

Ya'll,

I just realized the OP made his thread in the D. Cameras and Camcorders forum, and we're all suggesting software screen recorders. In this case, I have no expertise in what camcorder works best and suggest using a standard digital camera.

Fraps 3 is best, I've been making videos with fraps and editing and uploading them for 2 years.I used ZD soft's screen recorder but they are all good for making tutorial, to record desktop not game. So,if you are serious about recording gameplay then I suggest buying fraps.Yes,it will capture loseless video but size will be huge.So you might wanna buy a 1 TB or 2 TB HDD dedicated for this purpose like I do.That way your main HDD won't be affected by videos.Because I've noticed that HDD becomes very fragmented when you record videos regularly. So yeah, FRAPS is best for recording game and desktop because now Fraps's latest version allows recording desktop too.You ca download trial version from here, give it a try. :)
