Ok, so I uploaded around 300 photos of my first photo shoot. I borrowed my friends 8.0 MP DSLR, and now I have 300 pictures that are massive! Is there a program that can automatically reduce the size of all the photos? I'm hoping for something that can down-size them all correctly to 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10. I'd also like to re-name the all in one fell swoop. Right now they all have names like 1001-0082...Thanks

Are you on Windows? I know an easy way to do this on Mac with iPhoto, but not Windows. :(

Yes, I'm running WinXP. I have access to Adobe Photoshop CS...but I don't know how to use it. Well...I can do basic things, but that about it. For something that cost so much, you'd think it could do it somehow.

If you have Photoshop you can use the Actions function (under the Windows menu) to resize your images automatically. Load one of your images, then open the Actions menu. Start recording a new action, and edit the image (resize and save). When you've finished, stop recording, and save the action. If you do it properly, you should be able to load a number of the images into PS and run the action which will resize and save all of the images currently loaded. The only problem I foresee is that you may run out of memory if the files are very large, and you load too many at once. If you have a problem setting up an action, PS Help explains how to do it pretty well.

That's good to know -- that's basically was I was going to suggest on the Mac. Setting up a workflow to open the images, scale them down by 50% (or whatever you want), renaming and re-saving.If you wanted to re-size them manually in Photoshop, click Image, them Image Size, then you can resize it however you want -- to a particular pixel width or a percentage of its original size. Then just re-name and save.

I hope you are listening my friend... ready.... okay.Don't start with your photo opened! Make a new SET other than default action. 1. Go to PS and create a new action. Give it a name and start recording.2. Now open your file.3. Go to >image >image size > and change the resolution, not the image size if you change it to 200 or 170 you will save a lot of space and it will shrink all of the images proportionally.4. After the image size changes.... do a save as and put it in a different folder.5. Then close the image and stop recording.6. Go to the folder where the image is and delete it. You are going to do all of them at once and if you have a copy in the folder a dialog box will appear and stop the batch.7. Go to >File >Automate >Batch.8. Select the SET that you made and then the Action that you made.9. Choose the folder of pictures you want to batch as the source10. Put a check next to Override Action "Open" Commands and hit okay for the dialog that appears.11. Put a check next to Suppress File Open Options Dialogs.12. At destination put the folder that you created to dump the edited images.13. Put a check next to Override Action "Save As" Commands14. Then you can put the new names for the photos in the File Naming section. Now you can batch the whole lot of photos and walk away while your computer does this by itself. PS will open one image, change the resolution, save it with the new name at the new locateion, then close the photo. If there are any problems then hit ESC and it will stop the batch.
