Yes, the sensor is "better," but in reality it went from 15MP in the 50D to 18MP in the 60D - unnoticeable to the average user, who is going to view down-sampled images on a monitor.
Also, the 50D can shoot up to 6.3 fps, compared to 5.3 fps on the 60D.
Unless video is hugely important, there does not seem to be a compelling reason to buy a 60D instead of looking for a 50D on sale.
