I would like to see PCW delve into a prevalent problem with LCD monitors, usually on the wide monitors, effects both Stand alone PC Monitors and Laptops. I had an HP 23 inch LCD that developed Vertical Red and Blue Lines (One Each) about 5" in from the left side. I tried everything I could think of to correct it, from insuring that the drivers were up to date and that the Video Card was OK, the monitor was only 18 months old. I tried Hp with no success and went on many blogs which had good advice but nothing worked. I was advised several times over that I needed to get a new monitor and to have it repaired would be costly. From what I gleaned on the internet is that this problem affects just about every brand of monitor and laptop that are LCD. I think this would be worthy of our gurus at PC World to explore. Warm Regards Tom Dorsher, Martinez. California

I don't think it's just on widescreens. If it happens, your only options are to live with the problem or get a new monitor. I saw it happen on a Dell 17" (non-widescreen) LCD from 2005 - there was a pinkish line going right through the middle of the screen.

Any ideas on what causes this.

Perhaps pixels are becoming defective or the monitor was cheaply made. That's just a guess though, I'm not entirely sure.
