This is a letter I sent to Iolo Technologies regarding my experience with System Mechanic Dear Sirs,In principle, your System mechanic products are wonderful. However the reality is that your company has failed in more ways than just product performance. I was very excited about System Mechanic when I first purchased it to the extent that I convinced many friends to purchase it as well. There were two occaisions where i had a tech problem that was solved by talking directly to an Iolo employee. After that I only was able to get a recorded message when contacting your tech support department when problems arose that were not covered in your information archive. I e-mailed your tech and customer supoport departments as many as 10 times. And aside from an e-mail verifying that Iolo recieved my e-mail support request, I have to this date not had even 1 of my e-mails answered. I would like to point out that on your System Mechanic 6 Professional packaging it says "FREE unlimited telephone and e-mail technical support". A claim that Iolo has failed miserably at. I believe this is false and deceptive as it was the main reason in my decision to purchase S.M.6 Pro. A couple of weeks ago I sent another e-mail request for product support knowing you would not answer it. My question was System Mechanic seems to be interfering with my windows system restore function. And asked what I might do to correct this problem. Several system crashes in the last 2 months has caused me to lose months of work when System Restore didn't work. Something System mechanic was supposed to prevent. When I uninstalled System mechanic the system restore function did work. Now comes the new improved System Mechanic 7. The idea of purchasing another product from Iolo is laughable. mainly because you have ignored several urgent pleas for tech support. And totally dropped the ball on your claims of FREE UNLIMITED TECHNICAL PHONE AND E-MAIL SUPPORT. Given IOLO'S track record who would blame anyone for not wanting any more of your products. I was curious to know what I.T. professionals were thinking about your New product. So I started asking questions on professional I.T. forums. I was not surprised that I did not read even one post that supported your company or its products. They all plainly agreed that S.M.7 did not function well or live up to any of Iolo claims. The only people who supported you product was PC World magazine. They apparently are not very in touch with the actual performance of your product. So I am carbon copying this e-mail and forwarding it to them. It would have been wonderful had Iolo backed up it's claims about S.M.6 pro. Or even responded to desperate pleas for help. I would have been one of your best supporters. As I ended up buying back the System Mechanic software from friends I had convinced to purchase S.M.6 who had bad experiences with your company. so I thuink it is safe to say that I will no longer be using any new products from Iolo. And will advise all I personally know that your company is unreliable and that your products work about half the time. because it the simple truth. I hope your company resolves your problemsbecause the System Mechanic would be a wonderful product if these issues were worked out. Sincerely,John Earl :x

Currently, I have version 7.5.6 (System Mechanic Pro) and there is absolutely "no problem" with the system restore points although I can confirm that the problem existed in the previous version. So far, so good...
It's true that the previous version in the 7 series had problems - but - the current release (v7.5.6) so far, works very well. It's getting better all the time. My system: Windows XP SP2.
Yes, tech support needs to improve - as with all companies...
Nonetheless, and despite past issues, I still recommend iolo's System Mechanic! Like every company, they're growing and will improve with time...

I'v been sending this to iolo everytime I get a renew popup and I forwarded to everyone I know
Your product is supposed to keep my computer running smooth, instead it has become the #1 annoyance on mine and all my extended families computers.
How would you guys like to get an email every hour for a month and a half nagging you foa a big discount and to make specific improvements to your product. For instance, I,m not going to pay you anymore until you fix the virus scan. Its supposed to run a scan every 3 days at 2am but it keeps running during the day and if I'm copying any disks it'll freeze my system. Sys Mec has a few other flaws.
Maybe if you guys spent as much time perfecting your product instead of bugging the shit out of us for more money we might go for it. I think the new interface was merely cosmetic so you could add the renewal popups. I bought software not a subscription, I thought. I remember Ver.5 came with updates for life.
There we go, another popup just while I'm writing this email. So as for renewing my subscription I just wanted to say:
sincerely F.U.
