I decided to create a new account (don't remember the log in details for my original) for Itunes to make a song purchase. When I created the new account, I tried signing in but I kept getting told my password was incorrect. I knew what my password was, right? After several failed attempts, I requested a new password to be send to my e-mail address. Unfortunately, I never received the e-mail even after requesting the new password multiple times. Checked my spam filter- Nothing!

I finally switched over to Amazon and had zero problems with logging in. I had forgotten my password for my account on that as well and was sent an e-mail with a reset link. What's the matter with Itunes?!! I like using this program to browse through albums and such. I'd rather not quit using it because of my log in troubles, but these kinds of problems don't generally happen. Strange.

Depends if you CAN drop iTunes. People with iPods have no choice but to use it. I NEVER buy music from iTunes though... 99c is (IMO) ridiculous. Maybe 5-10c a song would be OK.

99cents is similar to what Amazon offers. I don't like iTunes myself, the only reason it's installed is because I have an old ipod nano. I prefer to not have the Apple Bonjour service, but itunes complains without it. Maybe I should just install crap like that in vmware and directly mount the ipod with the virtual USB card. That way I can keep the actual machine nice and clean!

If it's 5-10c, it's probably not a legal site.

There are alternatives to iTunes that will synchronize with iPod-type devices:

8 Free Alternatives to iTunes for Windows

Although I don't like everything about iTunes, I found it better for me than other alternatives I've tried. It's not perfect, but it's not bad enough for me to switch. I already have an account with them and don't need another account elsewhere to buy music. It sounds like Techie4fun's login problem is an isolated incident for him. To me, that wouldn't warrant looking for alternatives because the login server could be having a bad day. I use Amazon to buy and sell products, but I've never bought music from them. I guess if Apple or iTunes ever pushes me over the edge, Amazon will be my first look.

You can install iTunes w/o Bonjour, Apple Software Update, and Mobile Device Update. Just check out Ed Bott's guide over at Znet.com. After setup, the only thing you'll notice is a message in the Sharing tab of iTunes saying Bonjour is disabled.

Keep in mind that there is nothing that prevents you from purchasing your songs from Amazon, but still using iTunes for playing and browsing the songs. The Amazon MP3 Downloader (http://www.amazon.co...l/ref=dm_dp_amd) can automatically add any MP3s bought through Amazon to iTunes for you. And you can always import them into iTunes "manually". All of Amazon's MP3 files are not copy-protected, so they will work fine with iTunes (or Windows Media Player) as well as ANY MP3 device including iPods.

As to your problem, did you try contacting the iTunes Store support folks? They tend to be VERY responsive (after all, they tend to want to keep you happy and buying more stuff from them <grin>).
