Also, gmail and some other e-mail services will not send attachments with .exe extensions.

There are ways around this, change or add to the extension.... for example...
myfile.exe
into
myfile.abc or myfile.exe.abc
Then emailing it will usually go thru of course you would need to put instructions in the body of the email to the receipient to change the extension back to the original in order to run the program.

For most file back & forth, I prefer subversion. It lets you sync up a whole tree of files, collaborate, remember all the old versions, etc. Way easier than mailing around zip files.
One of the big weaknesses of many 'share a file through email' services is, you end up with a link that ANYONE can open, with no credentials. So in all the ways an email can be compromised, that link can be compromised, and therefore the file contents.
So as a minimum, you should definitely prefer some sort of 'cloud' storage that lets you 'share' folders with SPECIFIC accounts, and do that with a secure connection.
Though you can cut out the 'middle man' by putting up your own SSH(SCP)/FTP/WebDAV file server.
