You might have a laptop that's a few years old (usually 3 or more) and the battery no longer holds much of a charge. Often the charge level will suddenly drop. Worse yet, maybe it won't charge at all. This is completely normal - laptop batteries have a limited amount of recharge cycles and will eventually wear out.
