My Windows XP crashed, don't know if it was from upgrading to IE 7 or from downloading a game. Anyway, did system recovery and most of my docs are back, but the other user on the computer is totally gone. How do I get his data back? Also, my docs are there, but if they were in MS Word or Excel, I can't open them. Help.

When you did this system recovery, did you do a format of the hard drive or just re-install windows? Sounds to me like the reason you can't open your doc files is because before your computer crashed, you had microsoft office installed, and now that your pc is crashed, Office is no longer installed and the files require something to open them.--If you only did a re-install of windows without reformatting your hard drive, you should be able to recover your origional user account by going into your windows explorer-- "start, all programs, accessories, ((windows explorer)), then my computer, local disk" and look for the user accounts under documents and settings. If you reformatted your hard drive, your going to need to use an unerase tool to bring everything back.

Hi Sheila,Sounds like you need to reinstall Office, so you can open your word and Excell documents.I have a few questions for you before we begin:How old is your computer? Do you have current virus software?Which did you do first, upgrade to IE7 or install the game? Which game?sounds like your boyfriend might be a little pissed that those other docs are gone. Is this correct?Do you use yahoo messenger? If so, does it still work?
