I just discovered this, although I also got Mass Effect ( It wouldn't run in Windows 7 ). Looks real good, and it is challenging to be sure. Took me a while to realize that if your health starts dropping, you can get out of the line of fire and it will build back up again. What I thought was amazing was the fact that one character ( Illusive Man ) is voiced by Martin Sheen, the character even looks like Martin Sheen. The character rendings are among the best I have ever seen. It is a big game that takes place in space. I would call it a Hybrid Shooter/ RPG. THay just came yesterday, so haven't got a lot of time in it as yet.

Mass Effect 2 is indeed a nice game. Makes me realize that EA does something other than just NFS or Burnout! Whats better in this game version is that u don't require internet for activation. Plus u have a lot of downloadable content starting from armors, rifles to new vehicles & heavy weapons! The downside is u got to download each yourself; some packs are free, others require points & for remaining u have to pay(especially PS3 content). But with new copies of the game, they provide a network card allowing free download of certain packs.
Also there are new features like the one u said coastie, regenerating health similar to Halo. Unlike the last game, medi-gel here is used to revive the dead!! And the dead enemies will crawl & fight like zombies! Heavy weapons make a new entry into the game. U should see the fire power & graphics of 'Cerberus Arc Projector' or 'M-490 Blackstorm'.
Lookin 4 trouble
U will never know what hit ya

I couldn't get Mass Effect to play in Windows 7 so started playing Mass Effect 2. I went a little ways with it, but not too far ( about 2 hours maybe ).. I rebooted into Vista to get the Microsoft Updates and installed Mass Effect in Vista with the same results. When the box came up up, I clicked to check online for a solution. It seemed I had to download a patch ( Version 1.02 ) which was some stupid Copy protection crap and only allows 5 installs. I have been playing that and have about 5 or 6 hours in it ( Just got my own ship & crew so just starting out really ). I like the idea of not having to use health potions or whatever when your haelth gets down. It was the same with Uncharted I & II on the PS3 and sure made life good. Had one character down in Mass Effect, but got caught up in the battle and never got to her, After the battle I had to go and find her, or so I though, but she apparantly auto revived and came running up. I am still discovering some of these older games that I missed. Actually, I got curious after reading about Mass Effect 3 that is due to be released.
