When you installed it, did you just put it into the second slot? That may not work as it may be that it expects the bigger memory in the first slot possibly. I think you did give the most useful parts being what you tried to install and on what though my initial question may shed some light on one idea.Regards,JB

Yes, you did get the right memory, I went onto HP's website to verify this. As you may know, three short beeps is a RAM failure. I would try this, in order. Take out the 512 chip and try to turn the computer on again, verify that it can completely load up. If it does, turn off the computer and move the 256 chip to the slot and try to turn the computer on. If the computer successfully turns on, then it is the 512 chip that may be bad. If it doesn't, and you get the three short beeps again, the memory slot may be bad. Finally, take out the 256 and put the 512 in the original slot. Verify that the computer turns on. If it does, then you know the memory is good and the other slot is bad. If you hear the three short beeps again, you have know deternined that the 512 is bad and you should try to get a replacement chip.Unfortunately, there is not much you can do for a bad memory slot on the motherboard. You can have it repaired, but that may cost you just as much as getting a new motherboard. Try these steps first and report back as to what you found :-)
