Hello!!! there guys.I am going to buy a laptop, but I am not able to decide.I have shortlisted the following:
1.Dell XPS 14 (basic config with 6gb RAM)
2.HP pavillion dv4(new)
What's your opinion on these two?I welcome any suggestions regarding other laptops under 55k(1222$approx)
Query:
I visited the hp site to find the laptop but it is not like dell,I

Hey LutfanLubaib !

Welcome to PCWorld Community !

IF I were to compare a DELL XPS, it would have to
be with a HP Envy 14. Specifically, this one :

http://www.shopping....s/ENVY14_series

IF your wallet can't handle the HP ENVY then I would go for the DELL.

I'm not one to recommend DELLs but, in this case, XPS have always been good.

I am impressed with HP's laptops, they are reliable and very fast! I do not have any first-hand experience with the HP dv4, but it should be good!

I'm not a dell fan, it's either a hit or miss with their laptops.

If you had $2000, I would recommend an Apple MacBook Pro

Actually, with 1.2k, you could get a thinkpad. Macbooks are a bit expensive for the budget though...

Thank you for your reply,FLASHORN.I visited the website, you have mentioned. The basic config for ENVY 14 is $1099 & I believe it fits my budget, but I even saw the HP pavillion dv7t/dv6t quad edition laptops they are also pretty good. What's your opinion on these two?
Query:
I am from India(Kashmir),how do I order hp laptops from that site?Isn't there any such website for HP india?

Hey LutfanLubaib!

OK, now I have to ask , what will you be doing with this notebook?

IF it's for home or school then, this one should be adequate for your needs:
HP - India :
http://h10010.www1.h...57-5051623.html

Good specs and up-to-date CPU and GPU. plus , you can add memory as needed up to 8Gigs.

PLUS this one fits your budget at 45,750 Rupees. The ENVY will definitely bust your bank account if I go by the
amount you posted in your first post as it starts at 93.000 Rupees.

The other one from HP which you have mentioned, would be the dv6t which is only a Core i3 as compared to the
dm4 which is a Core i5 clocked at 2.66 GHz.

The dv6t is a 15.6 inch screen as compared to the dm4 which is a 14 inch screen.

http://h10010.www1.h...54-4308480.html

I can't find any reference of a dv7t on the India HP site. They might just not be offered. I don't know.

IF the DELL can match the specs of the dm4 and is about the same price then, I would go for the
DELL XPS instead.

Like I said, I am not one to recommend DELLs but in this case, you might be better off with one.

core i7 processor,6gb RAM,500gb HDD,a good GPU(atleast 1gb)-something I am getting with the dell xps 14.

Hey LutfanLubaib!

OK, I compared a few others to the DELL XPS and to tell you the truth, I can't seem to find anything that
will, at the moment and in your region of the world, match the specs AND price.

I even tried ASUS India (God, they have a slow web site) and none will suite your taste.

I would recommend going for this DELL :

Posted Image

The one on the Left has a Backlit keyboard and 6Gigs of RAM @1333Mhz at a cost of 59.900 Rs (don't forget to add 900 for delivery)

The one on the Right has the same specs but, no Backlit keyboard and only 4 Gigs of RAM @ 1333 Mhz at a cost of 51.900 Rs

I then, Customized the one on the Right to equal the amount of RAM (6Gigs) and add the Backlit keyboard to come away with a price
of 54.568.14 Rs. (don't forget to add 900 for delivery) :

You also get a 1-year XPS Premier Service with 1-year CompleteCover.

I don't think you could do better than that. I believe they are offering this DELL at such a low price because they are Re-Introducing
the XPS name to the market.

In comparison , I bought an ASUS G73JH-A1 last July which is a Gaming notebook and paid $2000.00 Canadian which would
convert to approximately 93.000 Rs. This is a 17.3 inch Wide-screen with full HD.

The ENVY by HP which is a 14 inch screen will also cost you 93.000 Rs and only has a Core i5.

For the money and specs, I would go with the DELL XPS.

I have to agree with the ThinkPad assessment. HP DV series are consumer junk, I know - I just dumped my DV5. For DTR, get a Lenovo T or W series. They are MUCH better built.

Hey wj !

There are certain restrictions (price) and demands to be meet. The only Core i7 would be the T series starting at (in India) 101.000 Rs
and the W series starting at 110.000 Rs which is twice what this member can afford. The reviews so far for the DELL XPS have been
very favorable so, I don't think this would be a bad purchase. You can get Lemons with any brand. I am not one to recommend DELL but,
in this instance and considering the constraints I have to work with, this would be the best possible outcome.

Hey LutfanLubaib!

Your welcome. If possible, could you post back when you have bought this new notebook
and share your experience with us? I would be interested in your thoughts after the sales
and the function of this notebook. In short, your own assessment of this notebook.

For some reason, I assumed the Lenovos would sell overseas at about the same prices as the US... I wouldn't have thought the price would double getting it over there...

I would still say anything but the HP... but that is from my single experience - with a known problematic product line, that they continue to sell.

I've had a DV7 for about 3 years which has been pretty good for me. I did call suppport once because that fan was loud at startup. They had me restore the bio to factory setting and the fan was quiet. The only issue i had was I was using Windows 7 ultimatge with XP mode and when set Bios back to factory defaults it disable virtualization and I had to re-install XP mode.
