I bought a WD500 Green as a quick, cheap replacement drive for a client ($50) This is an insanely quiet desktop drive. It is so fast, operations in XP happen in milliseconds. (I just wish I could keep the system that way for my client)

If the fans were brand-new in their Dimension E310, I think it would literally be a silent computer to the average joe.

But it's official, I am now a fan of the WD Green line.

Do you do Green?

Hope. Running a WD Caviar Black in here along with a Seagate Barracuda. This thing normally is whisper quiet, but due to temp issues with the Northbridge, I have had to turn off SmartFan, so it is not as a quiet.

Hi crazy,
I'm running a Samsung EcoGreen 1TB drive in our media center PC. It's a 5400RPM drive but I opted for storage (and price, it was on sale :D ) over speed. It's working great, and the lower power consumption and temps were important for my SFF case.

I have a WD caviar black and it's not that loud. Not super quiet either though. I just ordered a 2.5" WD Caviar Blue to replace the HD in a laptop, and I'll see how the noise is on that (I've heard it's very quiet).
