Okay, this is not good. I downloaded the demo and tried to enter my purchased key, but it still says it's invalid.

I think it's a pirated copy then. Try to get a refund.

It's not pirated, I don't believe anyone can make such an exact replica of an Office product. Also, it was sealed. And he's not accepting refunds (I paid with cash, not credit card).

You are completely stumping me here.Posted Image

Try this method: https://www2.downloa...c&culture=en-US
It's designed for the product key cards (if Office isn't preloaded), but it'll probably work anyway (if the license key is legit).

Also, check these things:
1. You're reading the license key correctly. I know this sounds obvious, but hey, half the time the printer isn't working because it wasn't turned on or it's out of ink... basics.
2. The box says that it's the "Professional" version, not Pro Plus.
3. The DVD says (physically) that it's the "Professional" version, not Pro Plus.
4. The setup wizard, from the DVD, says it's "Professional".
5. Will it accept the license key with the setup wizard from the DVD?
6. If 4 isn't true, will it accept the license key with the Professional trial setup wizard?

What exactly is the error message anyway that you're getting? Word for word.

1. Yes, I am.
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No, setup wizard says "Pro Plus"
5. It accepts the license key, but it cannot activate
6. No, it will not.

You do realize, that all trials include the same software, just that the keys are different (when you download a Home and Business Trial, you get a different key than if you download a Pro trial, but you essentially get the same software.

The error message basically says that I can't activate it since the product key is invalid. Note that the setup wizard accepted the key...

I believe that the download method will NOT work as I originally had Office preloaded on my PC, and that wizard didn't accept my key, only the DVD setup wizard did. Also note that the packaging was 100% SEALED so I don't get how the guy could have done anything to it.

Microsoft told me that the key was BLOCKED for some reason.

EDIT: And your link doesn't work, sorry...

Try this: http://www.softsailo...cense-type.html (the software must be installed)
Does it say that the distribution channel is "Retail" or does it say "VLM" (or "volume, same thing)? It should be Retail. If it's VLM, that could mean it's pirated.

Also, as I said, try searching the license key on google and see if anything comes up. If it's pirated, you'll get several results.

Also, what do you mean the link doesn't work? Does it give a "page not found 404" error? Or does it not accept your license key?

For the link: Firefox says "the link was reset". Chrome calls it "page cannot be displayed"

I'm no pro, Brian, so I attached a screenshot of the cmd. It says "Retail"... STRANGE!  Very strange, since it says my software is "activated" but this is not the case...

What IS activated, however, is my Starter Version. I searched the Pro Plus activation error code on Google and it gave a few results for mainly volume licensing of Windows

OK, I think the copy is probably genuine, since you get no search results on it and it looked genuine (physically).

1. Since you can install, what happens if you open up Word and try to activate there?
2. Try running this command in a command prompt (administrator privileges):
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14>cscript ospp.vbs /act
If you're using a 64-bit system, replace "\Program Files\" with "\Program Files (x86)\". Does it activate successfully then? See this: http://blogs.technet...0x80070005.aspx

Btw I have no problems opening the link for some reason... :S

Links still don't work! When I open up Word to activate, it starts activating, then says "product cannot be activated because the license key is invalid."

OK, that's wierd... I've accessed that from several computers now.
Open notepad (as an administrator). Open this:
\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

The file should look like this:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#	127.0.0.1 localhost
#	::1             localhost

If it has extra entries, delete them. Then restart and try to access the website again.

What extra entries are you talking about? And besides, I don't think the download is gonna work, since the original preinstalled Office activation wizard didn't accept my key either. :(

Use the find tool and look for "microsoft.com" (without quotes). See if anything comes up, and if so delete it.
