I received from PC World an offer for Easy Duplicate File Finder.I downloaded the program and found that I had a load of duplicate files. How do I find out what I can delete without doing any damage to my PC and programs. Billyg

Hey Billy!!

I would be Very leary of duplicate file finders. You really have to Know which one is the Duplicate otherwise you will most likely end up deleting the original or worst, a needed file for a program or process.
Why not leave well enough alone. If you keep your PC free of virus and temps files along with a defrag once every month and the PC doesn'ts show signs of fatigue, then leave it be please.

Hi Billyg. Glad you posted a forum topic. =)

Did you set the options to ignore system files and folders? You should probably leave Windows duplicates alone, but you're welcome to ask specific files.

Is it listing files that may temporary browser files? Like Flashhorn mentioned, you can run Disk Cleanup (type that into Start > Search bar) or other programs like CCleaner to remove temporary files.

As for any duplicate documents you made, you should check each one and decide which is best to keep. Just curious, how many original files + duplicates does the scan say?

Since it was mentioned, I'll say that if you have a Solid State Drive, you should not be defragging it. It's unlikely you have one unless you added it yourself.
