I must be 'blazing new trails' then. I had SP1 running two days after it was released with no problems. Now I am off to get IE9 in place.

If this were anything other than a package of already released hotfixes and patches I could see waiting for a few weeks to see if any issues are reported. However if you read the release notes you'll notice its not and actually doesn't add much more than just that, hotfixes and already released patches. So it makes little sense to not update.

PS - Most of the ppl I know, myself included, have be running the SP dating back to pre-release versions w/o issues. Not to say running betas or release candidates count for much for end users but as mentioned most these fixes aren't much.

I installed Windows 7 SP1 and had absolutely no problems. Performance might have improved a bit though. I also installed IE9 while it was still in beta. I just installed the release version. I'll be updating my other PCs soon too.

Now why in the world would you publish an article recommending that we do not install this Service Pack when it has been out for 8 days and already installed on most systems? Hey, want to buy a nuclear power plant in Japan???

Some very weak reasons not to install SP1 on Win 7, especially the SP that fixed an XP load. You wouldn't have had the problem in the first place if you'd loaded all the SP's.

If you have automatic updates set up at all your workstations there is no way to avoid installtion of SP1 after it has downloaded. I had 6 PCS affected with that fatal C00000034 error on the 9th and at the time Microsoft was NOT even aware of the issue. Thank GOD I found a fix that day here:

I was able to bring stations back up without losing anything. What I didnt know was that the restore points I had set up were erased because of this update. Ironically the remaining windows 7 stations installed with no issues but appear to have slowed down performance the next day.

Businesses CANNOT AFFORD to be down and Microsoft needs to make sure they test thier updates thoroughly. We would need a crystal ball to tell us when we shoud turn on or disable WSUS.

I wish I could have seen this story about Windows 7 SP1 when I tried to install it on my new HP Elite Desktop HP450f. It crashed my system! I had to back up my files, etc., then do system recovery-I had to reformat my hard drive.
