This is an ordinary thin-and-light laptop. How does it compare in any way with the MacBook Air?

Thickness-wise, it's closer to the macbook pro, though it starts at 0.72"

Actually its quite a unique machine that doesn't really line up against either of Apple's. Like the 13" MBP it has a built-in optical drive. Like the Air it is in the 3lb class instead of the 4.5 lb class of the MBP. It is cheaper than either, but in build quality compares (very favorably) to the recently discontinued plastic MacBook, which is also 50% heavier.
If I was looking for a cheap, lightweight computer with full features, the Portege would be a very strong competitor.
