I have a HP zv6000 cto, bought almost two years ago. Because of an apparently defective hard drive beginning last summer (just after the warranty ran out, of course), I replaced the hard drive recently and also decided to add 1 Gig Ram to the 512 I already have. This new setup worked for about a week or so and then started to have problems starting, then problems staying on. For the the last several days I have not been able to use the computer at all. I've tried online diagnostics, downloading "critical" updates, etc. The tests come back saying that the computer is okay, but the next time I try to start it, the old problems return.I've had many sudden blue screens suggesting errors such as "Page Fault in nonpaged area" and recently the messages have become more serious when I start up the computer such as "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WindwsSystem32ConfigSystem" and "Resource conflict -- allocation erro static node #OB."One possible place of problem is that the 512 mb is in the primary spot and the 1 gig is in the secondary spot -- is that much of a problem, could it be causing anything?I'm fairly novice at this so any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, U.

Wow, that's rather interesting because I am having the same problems with my Hypersonic Aviator FX7. In addition I'm also get the BadPoolCaller STOP error. I tried cleaning and reseating my ram modules and that didn't work. I have cleaned everything I could think of and inspected all I could see. I just got through trying to re-install the OS with the disaster recovery DVD but it stops with the error message "kernel panic..." and then it kicks me out.So, I'm hoping someone replies here with some ideas because we have 2 needing an answer! Thanks

Yeah, I hope so too . . .I used the system disk last night to "repair" the operating system. Immediately afterwards it seemed to work okay, but being late I did not play with it too long.Today, I tried starting it numerous times without the power cord (even though it had been fully charged up last night) and only got an entirely black screen. When I plugged in the power cord, it did start up, but then Internet Explorer would not work at all and instead would create shortcuts when I clicked on it. Netscape worked for a couple of minutes (twice) but then the computer stopped working -- once with a new blue screen stop error message and once it went directly to black. Now it is back to black and will not start. A self-diagnostic of the hard drive by the computer came up with a pass last night (before the disk was "repaired"). Thanks for any help one can provide . . . U.

My system is basically a vegetable now. In addition to the kernel fault I am now getting "unable to handle kernel paging request" error message very briefly after it kicks me out of the recovery disk. If I knew where to start I could try looking into something. The windows error message website is extremely vague in its descriptions of possible causes.

Have you tried booting without the newly added 1gig of RAM? Are you sure that the 512 stick and the 1gig stick are the same speed?

How does one boot without the new Ram? Or did you mean remove it?I did not know that the two RAM sticks needed to be the same speed. They very well might be different speeds. What kind of problems might that cause? If they are different speeds, should I just pull out the 512 and keep the new 1 GB as my only RAM stick -- the 512 came with the computer (two years ago) and the 1 GB was recently added.Thanks.

I would try booting with the 512 stick. If the 1gig stick is a different speed, then most likely it is a higher speed, and probably isn't supported by your mobo (this doesn't mean it won't work, but you will have problems with it). Mixing speeds, and mixing different amounts of RAM do tend to cause problems, though I haven't heard of any problems relating to the kernel. If it boots perfectly with the 512 stick, then you know the problem was from the 1gig stick, and you'd have to find out what RAM type and speed your 512 stick is to upgrade it. Also, having two sticks of the same amount is not necessary, but highly recommended. If you want to upgrade, then I would suggest getting another 512 stick with the same specs as the 512 stick that came with your computer.

I wish somebody would come up with a reasonable answer to these laptop failure issues. Initially I bought a Toshiba - about $3000 that was considered CHEAP at the time. It was great but quickly outdated and early enough that I couldn't upgrade. After 2 desktops went to another laptop - HP. Two weeks after the 1 year warranty ran out, sure enough the hard drive crashed. $250 later to replace HD, it lasted 2 years and now again I'm in the same predicament. Fortunately, I had saved my old desktop running ME and purchasing an Ethernet interface enabled me to at least continue my Vonage phone service - which I love. Yes, I have the laptop disconnected and while I enjoyed the size and mobility, I simply don't think the price/cost of repair is justified. There has to be a reason these fail as often as they do. I've heard in the past that some mfgrs put parts in laptops that don't belong there - originally made for desktops - and they fail quicker within the space constraints - heat, etc. Now I am back to square one and searching for a pc - desktop or laptop - that will last a reasonable time. Help !!! Any suggestions or recommendations? All greatly appreciated.

What's a reasonable time? Also, how hard are you using the laptop's capabilities, e.g. if you play WoW 24/7 on a laptop this may cause some parts to get more wear than if you just use it 15 minutes a week to watch a few music videos? The desktop component part will always exist I think as some people want that power of a desktop in a laptop and some boutiques will put in such parts if you go looking at laptops with say a 7950 video card in SLI that would probably generate quite a bit of heat.Regards,JB(Whose laptop is nearly a year old now and still working fine)
