Most do. Did you have more of a requirement than that?

Not really - VLC is available for most - if not all distros. It will play anything from DVD's to H.264 to ... well you get the idea.

edit: The only thing VLC doesn't handle natively is blu-ray - and for that you get makemkv.

For Ubuntu, you will want to add the restricted extras package. That will give you support for your MP3s and movie files. If you want to play DVDs that's fairly simple as well. With modern browsers like Chrome and FireFox4 you'll see that you have access to prety much everything you had on your PC or Mac. I don't feel as though I am missing anything at all. Can't think of anything except for perhaps specific DRM files from iTunes or playing back audible content, which I was able to accomplish via WINE.

Linux mint comes with mp3 codec installed.

It supports a wide range of protocols and audio/video formats.
