I have subscribed to PC World for several years, noticing the multi-page advertisements for 1&1 Internet that often appear in PC World issues. When I began developing a website for a local Jeweler in my area, I recalled such ads and ordered a hosting plan from 1&1 Internet. 1&1 was offering Dreamweaver CS4 for free with some of their hosting packages, but I have had nothing but problems attempting to download the software. In fact, I can't download it at all. I called Technical support numerous times, and was just recently assured the problem was fixed, yet the download still won't work. I tried Windows 7, Windows XP, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and so on. I need to begin developing this website! This has been going on for weeks. Seeing as 1&1 has advertised in your magazine for years, I consider this issue especially important.

I would find a different service provider: http://www.mywot.com...order.1and1.com
Oddly, another one I've seen advertised a lot has bad ratings: http://www.mywot.com...ard/godaddy.com
http://www.mywot.com...d/dreamhost.com - dreamhost.com doesn't look too bad.
As for the dreamweaver software, what errors are you getting downloading it? Do they give you a key and a download link? If so, you can grab the trial installer from adobe's site and use the key 1&1 gave you to activate it.

I get a 500 Internal Server error -- I was assured they problem was with their servers, not my PC; but they still haven't fixed the problem, at least for me.
I do have the license key but the Dreamweaver version is CS4...no longer available for download on Adobe's site (apparently they only host the latest version, CS5).

Yeah I hate that too - needing to install software but you don't have the install disc and the dang company doesn't offer a trial for download anymore. Try this: http://webcache.goog...=www.google.com
The actual page was down when I checked.

I've tried...all the sites link to Adobe, which of course no longer hosts CS4.
Still dealing with 1&1...yesterday they couldn't give me any information right on how long it will take.

Hey,
I run 1and1 hosting as well. I have downloaded CS4, no problem. It works wonders!
You are having a 500 internal service error? Definitely sounds like their problem. So you cannot download it all? When you press download, what happens? Does it just show the error? Or something else??
I attached some simple instructions...I know, terrible pictures. Sorry, just some quick snips with Windows snipping tool, then some editing with the terrible built-in "pen" feature.

I have had nothing but trouble with this web service. The page designs are very difficult to work with. Changing the layout is nearly impossible.
Finally when you do get something changed, you cannot publish your revised page, an unexpected "error message" pops up. Per 1&1 their "technical support & application engineers are working on the problem". They do not have any sort of estimate of when they will have it fixed. They have offered me 1 free mnth of service but, with the service they are providing that really isn't much considering my webpage cannot be updated.
Stay far away from this company. I will be finding someone else immediately.

Definitely stay away from this company. I'm not sure what happened to 1&1 as it was very reliable and an excellent hosting service with better than average tech support. Now, I have no respect for them whatsoever. Why? Because 6 times in the last 3 months my 5 domains sites have been unavailable - all at the same time. This despite the dual hosting that 1&1 brags about in their ads and on their website. In fact, there is even a sidebar from someone named Ryan C. that includes this statement: "Only 1&1 gives you the reliability of Dual Hosting, which means your website is hosted across multiple servers in two different data centers, and in two geographic locations." (see the attachment) If, in fact, this were the case then how could BOTH servers with my 5 domains on them be down at the same time? I've contacted their tech support both via phone and email and they are inept at best. I have been given the excuse that a car hit a utility pole outside one of their data centers and that was why my sites were all down. Okay that explains one server being down but not the second. Today, I was told by tech support on the phone that they don't have access to any information regarding how both servers could be down at the same time because they are not authorized to know that information. They are only cleared to help with "first level" issues. When pressed to explain what exactly that meant I was told only admin level could answer that. Since this has happened to me too many times I am consulting my attorney to see if there is a way to sue 1&1 for fraudulent advertising as well as other things over this whole debacle which has cost me not only revenue but business clients as well. I referred them to 1&1 and now they blame me for all the unresolved problems they are experiencing.
