I use Crystal Disk Info quite a bit for SMART monitoring. It has recognized things that smartctl has missed and also detected my Seagate 1.5TB SATA in my external USB enclosure. Best part is it's free and open-source.
I also like Piriform's Defraggler for defragging, it's a pretty useful utility and provides a nice display as it is working.

Good article. I actually prefer diskeeper to all the defraggers mentioned here. It is the most advanced the only defragger smart enough to prevent most fragmentation before it happens.

Has anyone used MyDefrag? I have been using it for a few years and think it does a great job.
