My computer gets hundreds of pop ups saying i need to buy a registry cleaner (each pop up has a different one to buy). The pop up says its from Messenger Service. How do i get rid of these? I've had two of them pop up since i started asking this question! HELP! Thank you! I have Windows XP . One of the Messages says to go to www.clean32.com. My internet service provider is Midcontinant. I am borrowing this computer from a friend and it was already getting these messages before i plugged it in. Another message says http://Fix64.com. How do I disable Windows Messanger? Thanks again

{size:18px}[/size]:D Hi Stacie : You appear to know these are Scam Messages, that are using the "Messenger Service"; they are NOT from Microsoft . To help, additional info is needed, such as the NAME of the Manufacturer, the SPECIFIC NAME of your Operating System, the NAME(S), including VERSION NUMBER(S) of all your Security Program(s), and the NAME of your Internet Service Provider . And if you are using any of their "security program(s)" . Have you "turned OFF" or "disabled" your Windows "Messenger Service" !?

If you want to disable windows messenger, you can go to the link I have provided you. If you want to revert the changes, just follow the instructions in reverse order. That way if you decide you want to reeable windows messenger in the near future for some reason, you can do so easily without putting your system in jeopardy.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/stopspam.mspxP.S... it sounds like these pop-ups are from spyware that may just be installed on your computer at this moment. I would advise you NOT to download this program http://fix64.com./ http://www.clean32.com/ on your computer. It looks like spyware...

http://www.microsoft...e/stopspam.mspx gives a step-by-step instructions how to disable messenger service. But if you get pop-ups on your computer it can be, that your computer is infected with adware or spyware. So I recommend you to scan your system with anti-spyware programs (better on a regular basis). You can find more information on http://www.spywarere...aredatabase.php
