Hiii,
I'm about to uninstall McAfee from my friends laptop(OS:Win7 x64). The version & components of this new McAfee seems to be different from the one on my sony vaio. Here's what the about page shows

Component Version Year
Security Center 9.15 2010
Virus Scan 13.15 2010
Personal Firewall 10.15 2010
Site Advisor 3.0 2010
Anti-Spam 10.15 2010
Parental Controls 11.15 2010

Here's a link to one of my earlier topics where Flashorn suggested a method to uninstall McAfee(post no.19) Should i proceed with the same?

Hi cyberknight.

If it were me I would follow the same.
I haven't heard anything different and following the link to the other thread and clicking flashorns link, it takes you to the tool to uninstall so I'd say you'd be getting a current uninstaller.

Sounds right and safe to me.

I understand your concern being its not your pc.

Well, when i uninstalled McAfee on my system it did'nt have all of the components listed above. Plus the version may have been an older one. So i was hoping that there would be newer version of MCPR.exe or a different procedure to deal with all these components of 2010. Atleast thats what i understood from Softpedia. U can see that they have mentioned of products till 2007 being removed. Also the affected products does'nt include "Parental Controls", "Anti-Spam". So is 5.0.285 the latest version of MCPR?

The McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool removes all 2005-2011 McAfee consumer products on Windows XP, Vista, and 7 computers. Seeing as how the link Flashorn provided is not version specific, and matches the same link on the page I provided, I'd say you're in good shape using it.

If there would have been an updated removal tool for McAfee, it would have been reflected on this site :

http://www.uninstallers.blogspot.com/

Specifically, this line :

[22a] McAfee Products > Info > Tool

Yeah looks like softpedia has'nt updated its info. 5.0.285 is indeed the latest version of MCPR & it removes everything till 2011. Major Geeks site states it all.
One thing is confusing though. They ask u to activate the subscription before uninstalling. I am assuming that this step is for those who plan to reinstall McAfee. Correct me if i am wrong. By the way, McAfee is not activated on his lappy so far.

Cyber,

You don't have to turn off Defender but, you will have a UAC prompt. I would simply right click on it and "run as admin".

Don't forget to verify that it isn't (McAfee) running. Check task bar (near clock) and if it shows a McAfee icon, right click
and choose Disable.
Then, go to Programs & Features and uninstall there first. Run the tool afterward. Re-Boot PC once all done and install
new A/V. Would be best to be off line while doing so , so download and save all you need before doing actual work.
