Hi all, Can you guys give me your opinion on what the best anti-virus protection is best? I have Norton right now and am wondering if I should renew this or get a different one. I have been hearing that Norton makes things run a lot slower and I am wanting advise on this. Mine runs out tomorrow so any responses would be a great help. Thanks in advance for your time! I was also told AVG or Avast, and to also get Spy Sweeper, and Kerio Personal Firewall. Should I get all 3 of these as suggested? I was told that you need other protection, to not only have AVG or Avast by thereself. Would love to hear opinions. Thanks so much in advance for all your help. TammyEdited by Cosmo, NO SPAM

{size:18px}:D Hi Tammy : Norton does have the reputation of being a "resource-hog", meaning it slows down a computer. Anytime someone "switches" their antiVIRUS company, should ALWAYS use the former company's "Removal Tool", in addition to "uninstall(ing)" ALL of its "components" in "Add or Remove Programs". Norton's is at www.majorgeeks.com/NortonRemovalToolSymNRTd4749.html Before selecting an antiVIRUS, it is wise to read a product's "FAQs" and since I feel Avast is the BEST FREE Antivirus, their's at www.avast.com/eng/faq-avast-4-home-professional.html . There is NO need to BUY antiSPYWARE protection, like SpySweeper, when there is the FREE version of "SUPERantispyware" from www.superantispyware.com and/or the "trial" version, which after 30 days becomes the "FREE" version, of "AVG Antispyware" from www.ewido.net available. And for Rootkit Detection, best to start with the Good & FREE "RootkitRevealer" from www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Security/RootkitRevealer.mspx . And to PREVENT some spyware from getting on a computer, use the Good & FREE "SpywareBlaster" from www.javacoolsoftware.com . Sunbelt's Kerio Personal Firewall is one of the BEST FREE firewalls . However, at times some firewalls have "problems" with another security program on a computer, so it is wise to find a Good Source of info and there is an Excellent source at www.castlecops.com/f208-Sunbelt_Kerio.html ; should definitely read the "FAQ" there . A "Starting Guide" about Protecting a computer, is at : http://rcip.com/mitc...dieUpdated.html

Who is your ISP?? Do they offer any anti-virus and spam blocker for free? I have Comcast and they have MacAfee for free. It is really good, although some complain it slows their machine. I feel that the ISP has the power to block any bad stuff and that it should be their responsablity.

{size:18px}:D Hi Tammy ( and Others ) : NEVER use the "free" antiVIRUS and/or antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN programs provided by an Internet Service Provider; they are usually "stripped down" version(s) of another company's product. And they are an attempt by the ISP to make it more difficult to switch to another ISP. And as to McAfee, they came in next to last in tests performed by the independent AV-Comparatives Organization .
