Seems like Microsoft had created a "Media Center" interface a while back. Hmmm...tweaked to appear trendy with the current tablet ideas?

Im with rootx all the way. they discussed some the features and capabilities, but what about all those holes that they didn't fill up intentionally or unintentionally. I've never thought of using a another OS until i realized how many security updates i had to download (eating up space) and the advertisements for security software that i would have to renew. I do like apple but, they are out of my price range right now so, Im learning to work with Linux based software. I don't understand why and how they can be such a success with all the flaws in their product. If they had better security measures i would probably swing back to the other side, but im with you rootx, "All BSD & Linux" until time ends. Free good software for everybody!

What about those that don't want a touch screen interface? I am 3 feet from my nice 24" screen. I don't want to touch it. It's hard enough to keep clean as it is. If it's a tablet on a desktop - might spill coffee on it.

If the only tool you have is a hammer ( touch screen ) everything ( desktop ) starts looking like a nail.

Is this just GUI that links to multiple back end OS? (e.g. Tablet or Desktop OS? Depending on the CPU?) Maybe they should leave the option of multiple GUI. More traditional for desktops, and mobile touch for mobile / tablet machines.

I don't need a touch-screen based OS on my laptop or desktop. I like the familiar Start menu and Taskbar. I wish that Microsoft would realize that some of us like the old menu system (from Windows XP/7 and Office XP/2003).

As usual, PCWorld's headline has little to do with what is described. This doesn't answer any of the more important questions: It's stricttly a fluff piece.I sure hope Redmond has you on their payroll. The biggest question I have (and which I expected to find addressed): Can the user completely defeat the touchscreen and get a traditional interface? If not, I will be skipping this. I am not against innovations if they make sense: I just don't like touchscreens. And I am sure that I am not alone.

I hope MS pays attention to business users this time. Win7, by design, is clearly a home user interface. Most users in business only need access to a Documents like library where any pictures and videos would be stored with other documents. They don’t need separate Pictures, Music and Video libraries. Business users do need a search function which will allow them to find, for instance, the word "allocate" in any .doc file only in a specific set of sub folders on the network. Win7 does not do this well. Business users also need more straight forward ways to navigate to the folder or volume above, not just back. Maybe MS will be smart enough to include a toolbar to address issues like this. If not, this IT Director will be taking a hard look at alternate operating systems.

What? I must be misunderstanding you. Libraries are fantastic, You can create your own, for instance, .Doc Files, and add any folder or folders you want, locally and networked, and you can make networked folders available offline. You can make any Library you want and put all different file types in various folders. You make a library and add any and all folders you specify with vids, audio, graphics, text, any combination of file types.
As for navigating up - why? You can use the navigation pane for that kind of browsing/searching. The idea is to put all the folders you need into a library, I can't see a need to 'go up.'
Libraries and jump lists are new Win7 features.
Every one that is complaining about Win 8 being touch screen and blah blah which they don't want on their PCes, READ THE ARTICLE! You can use the same GUI and file management as Win 7 simply by selecting it as default GUI. It is the same as you are used to. And anything you don't like about the Aero features, you can turn off with three clicks. It is funny listening to people complain about this and that in 7 when it is already available in the OS to begin with, LOL!
Also, who effing cares about Linux and Mac. This is a discussion about Windows 8. You Linux trolls just make your community look childish, although most are not like you. I sure hope you would welcome Windows users spamming your discussions.

I am really looking forward to Windows 8. If it is as good an upgrade as 7 is/was from XP, look out!
