Setting HDTV as Monior

Hi i am doing the same thing with my PC, i have what looks like the picture in the upper right hand corner
the problem i have right now is the small monitor i am using right displays what i am typing now,but i do
not anything Displayed on my big screen,when i start up my PC it goes all the way thru to welcome screen
then big screen goes blank,i tried unplugging small screen and restarting PC,but that did not work there
probaly a simple reason for it not to start up on big screen,but i am at a lost as to why thats why i shut down
PC so PC would reconize new HDTV,THANKS IN ADVANCE
