Correct me if i am wrong, but 4GB RAM is more than enough for all non gaming tasks, and for gaming there is the discreet graphics card anyway.

Hi Shell4000,

I have 4 Dell laptops and none had any issue. I use mine usually on a daily basis as do my children. Except for the last one these laptops are well more than 2 years old. The oldest one I bought in 2006. Of course it is a bit slow now by still doing good.

What I just can't understand is the lack of a blu-ray (at least ROM) option. This would really bring this laptop to a realm above the Mac? This is a gross oversight and has kept me from purchasing this unit. I haven't asked Dell (what's the point?) because I have read about this lack of a valid feature on more than a couple of reviews and comments. Dell needs to go the entire distance when they're 90% there. The XPS 15 is too bulky if you're interested in extreme portability with power. Dell are you listening?

Gross omission here...No possibility of either a blu-ray ROM or blu-ray R drive. This would truly set this laptop apart from comparisions to Apple. I would have already purchased it if this was available, I almost purchased the XPS 15, but the bulk is more than I'd like. If they could add the blu-ray and make the battery user-replaceable this would be too compelling to pass up. Are you listening DELL?

Hi ErickWisler,

I have:
1998 - Dell Latitude Cpi
2004 - Dell Inspiron 300m
2008 - Dell D830 (2 of them) Core 2 Duo T9500 4GB RAM 1920x1200 resolution
2010 - Dell Studio 15 quad-core i7 hyperthreaded (8 CPU on task manager) 8GB RAM BluRay Disc + ATI gaming video + 256 GB SSD 1920x1080 LED
2011 - Dell E6520 quad-core i7-2720QM hyperthreaded (8 CPU on task manager) 8 GB RAM + 256 GB SSD + eSATA 750GB 7200 RPM 2.5" HDD 1920x1080 LED

And the E6520 is military grade MIL-810G rated built like a tank, yet lightweight and efficient.

All still working perfectly. The only problem with the older models (1998 and 2004) are new batteries were consumed and replaced. Zero issues with the inverters or LCD or CCFL backlighting. The newer models use LED and no inverters.

The only thing I'd like above that would be a completely OLED display technology, instead of LCD.

So much for what shell4000 claims...And you won't find that kind of technology or durability at Apple at any price.

John, as a Mac user I have no dog in this fight. But Dell says that the laptop is too thin to put one in. That would explain why we never see one on Macs. Another great example of Apple's and now unfortunately PC makers implementation of style over substance.

This is the worst computer I have ever purchased. I've cut myself twice on the plastic edging. To adjust the volume you must press the function key before toggling one of three F keys. The battery usage is over stated, I get about 3.5 hours when flying with the screen brightness turned down, and the movie loaded onto the hard drive. One very well produced review on YouTube.com gave a glowing review, but at the end, giving the XPS 15Z top marks over the Mac. However, his final comment was that he would take the Mac. I should have listened. This has completely soured my experience with Dell after owning 4 in the past. If I had the budget this year I'd sell this and find another brand. I really don't like being this negative.

I hate this laptop's keyboard, and all Dell laptops that have this model keyboard which Dell calls "chiclet". The keys are smaller, many keys are now combined with other functions, so the user is now forced to use two hands with the Fn key to click instead of just the normal one finger, e.g. if you want to click on the 'Home' button you have to click on 'Fn' key with your left hand AND the the new combined (Home+left arrow) key with your right hand. YUCK. I hate this keyboard and do not recommend it.
