What do you guys think of Need for Speed World?

Also, I run it in windowed mode. I tried medium and it was smooth with only 70% GPU usage (usually 100!). I set it to 1280x960 (max 1280x1024) because of course there's the taskbar and such. Can I force it to be much wider so I can stretch it across both monitors? That would be sweet.

Finally, how realistic would you guys say these games are? Is it possible to be able to more specifically control turns and acceleration, not just on/off? Would I need to buy, say, an xbox controller? I mean, I was going at 120MPH on the freeway while constantly accelerating, and that is with the slowest car setting (they say you should start with it). That is, assuming there weren't many turns.

LBD: These car games just get better and better. The graphics and game play are pretty realistic. I've followed them from the beginning and can see the increases from the first to the most recent. One thing I've found was that a joystick can go a long ways in getting more control of the action. This addition of a joystick may have some adverse effects, such as a slow down frame rates at the higher resolutions. Even slow response from the joystick can erupt and can be fixed if you reduce or eliminate the number of programs running in the background. Grand Turismo has been another one that I've followed through the years and across multiple platforms that allow some different actions on the screen to affect other players, especially when playing split screen against others. Allowing certain advantages to players when moving up from earlier versions can increase the fun when you can get a head start.

wow... apperantly you can just resize the window. I only found that out once I changed a config file to 2500x960 (purposely not 2560 so I had a little space to move the window) and it wasn't too bad, but not super smooth. If I want to do that a lot I might need a better GPU, but then that means a better PSU...

What joysticks do you know of that would work well? I don't have any game controllers (like xbox or wii).

I've used a number of them, but the Logistics has stook up the best. The cheapest is what I like to use, they get beat up pretty fast and being plastic, tend to crack when heavy handed. They usually come with some software that will let you reassign functions to customize for your preferences and will speed up game play, especially on FPS like Splinter Cell and such. There are some controllers that even look and function like the PS3 units but have USB connectors. Not really my speed, I'd rather play on the PC then the game console so never got stuck on the controllers made by the game companies.

Nahh. I got busy with some other stuff and forgot. Oh well, I just got a new gpu (550ti), so I'll be installing that soon and then testing it.

Hmmm, Haven't tried the PS3 controller on the PC yet. I have the drivers but haven't messed with it as most games do fine with the mouse.

On my laptop, with those racing games, I sometimes feel like I'll break the arrow keys (which are half the size of all the others).

Race games do not lend themselves to be played with a mouse. In my opinion. Tomb Raider doesn't play well using a mouse either and the reason I play it and others like it, on the console.

For single person shooters, I like the mouse and can use the left hand for the keyboard and function keys. A joy stick or actual wheel/pedal controller is best for racing games, double joysticks can be confusing but have good action and analog control. A comfortable chair, speakers and turn off the incessant background music tracks.. Some have commentary that begins to grate after a couple games but will disappear during intense game play.

A mouse? I never touch that during the game. I am primarily using the arrow keys. Heck, I almost never let go of the up arrow key (accelerate).

That mouse gives me more control than I have fingers for the keyboard. Arrows left me go forward, crouch, leap left or right. The mouse gives me direction, fire and aux fire with the scroll for forward backward motion. With the mouse slaved to the target recticle, perfect shot. Racing, well, a keyboard is terrible. The Sony guys have come close with a reliable control that works, is comfortable and upwardly compatible for user feedback and tremble or shaker modules. The military builds cutom keyboards that replicate all kinds of ground and air elements.

I don't think NFSW supports that though, unfortunately. I see your point though.

Each game demands each user to make their own choices for control. I use an Inland with programable keys that has a mimic feature for multiple moves. Sometimes I'd rather use the farther left key clusters and involve the space bar with the thumb. I got used to a track ball a few years back when a system I was staging for a client used them instead of a mouse . Little different hand/wrist position but not uncomfortable. The newest motion sensing units can really open new ways of inputting motion.

I am a big fan of playing games..I like to play all type of games and I like racing games most...Any type of racing game I like to play and Need For Speed is One of mine favorite online racing game..This is an incredible game so much fun over here in this game and I ever enjoying playing this game........

it's hard to play it with computer specially if you don't have a joystick

first of all, cute girls on the avatar.
Second, I agree that a joystick is necessary. More accurately, a pressure sensitive control is necessary. You just cant emulate good car control on a keyboard button the just says on or off
