The shadiest part of the price increase is that the price on mailed discs is going up, but the reason it's going up is Netflix's added costs of streaming. I might have to switch to Blockbuster for my discs. The extra two dollars a month is worth having new releases sooner and being able to go to a brick and mortar if the need arises. I'd have to keep Netflix for streaming though.

I am using Blockbuster right now for bluray movies - like it better than Netflix as i prefer discs by mail and they arrive on time (2 days) and only few times (1-2 times a month) the discs don't play well and get easily replaced fast. I had Netflix before..took about 3+ days to receive 1 disc and if and they had lot of damaged discs which irritated me.

really thinking hard about leaving netflix all together... For the price of Huluplus, and now the new price of netflix i can get satalite for the same price... i cut the cord because this was a cheaper and many ways better option... Not so much now.

How can you not mention Vudu? Granted it's Walmart owned, but the video and audio quality blows both Netflix and my Apple TV's away. Plus new releases same day as DVD. Granted I had to buy Battle LA, but it's stored in my digital locker and not taking space on my PS3 HD

How could you exclude Vudu for PS3? Granted, I'm not a fan of Walmart, but the HDX audio and video quality is pretty awesome. I've all but abandoned my Apple TV's for movies at this point. Plus purchases are stored via cloud/digital locker so as not taking space on my PS3 HD

Discs by mail doesn't matter to me. That's kinda living in the past. I'd rather video stream as long as it doesn't lag a lot.

And people can always jailbreak their iDevices and use iStreamNet which offers shows and movie streaming for free.

You forgot to mention Vodo, which offers free movies via Bittorrent (admittedly, mostly indy stuff and documentaries, but they're 100% legal).

Beyond that though, I don't see Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus making much of a dent. Hulu Plus is good mostly for currently airing TV shows, but has a dismal movie collection compared with Netflix and Amazon Prime, frankly I laugh when people think it competes with Netflix Watch Now. They have what? 1,000 titles altogether for free with the service? It's a nice add on if you happen to going for Amazon prime anyway, but it's definitely no replacement for Watch Now.

SO - - HULU is the only one that is actually any competition for NETFLIX. Personally, I don't feel that NETFLIX is at all out of line with their price increase. You still can't get a better deal anywhere else. Those who cry over it can leave. They will be back soon enough that their absence will barely be missed by NETFLIX.

I was thinking about quitting netflix because it doesn't stream to Linux OS devices though about everything else does;I've stayed though because of the great selection.I dualboot my laptops to windows though I shouldn't have to bend to Redmond's will,If someone were to offer an equal selection I'd switch. I would prefer all streaming though the cracked and scratched discs that will not play has become a problem.

There have already been stories about the studios raising the fee that Netflix has to pay for the right to stream the video to it's customers. So, I am not upset with Netflix, but rather the studios.

What was not mentioned is that Netflix has a $4.99 a month plan. You're limited to two DVDs a month, but that's how many I was renting anyway, so it's a better deal for me. I don't watch movies on my computer anyway, so that's no loss.
