Yeah what are some dvd rippers that you guys recommend? I'm willing to pay for something, since I can't find a good free one. Many of the ones that were free giveaways are said to be forum spammers on WOT. I tried Magic DVD Ripper, but the issue is that it's not multithreaded (so it uses about 25% total cpu, all of it on core 1). Some of the others didn't work too well. Using DVD Decrypter and a tool like Any Video Converter seems to work well, except that dvd decrypter hasn't been updated in a while and it doesn't work on some dvds. On the other hand, I love how with that I can copy the files to the HD with dvd decrypter (about 10-15 min each), then put several of those files into the video converter and leave the computer alone for a few hours to finish it all.

Remember, according to the new DMCA laws, it IS legal to copy dvds you buy to the computer.

Also, what tools are there that can copy bluray discs? I might get a bluray drive eventually, so it would be nice to be able to do that.

I've been using DVDFab for years. It's not exactly cheap, but it's well worth the price. It will handle Blu Rays. It does about everything you could want and is updated very frequently.

I use MakeMKV. It will rip dvd's and blu-ray both to MKV files for easier conversion/compression. And for the most part, it is free. Meaning all you have to do, is update every 30 days. The product owner even suggests doing this. If you want to pay for it, he asks $30 as I recall.

also, consider grabbing ripit4me. That is an add on for DVD decrypter that works extremely well for most stubborn discs.

Well, on second thoughts I'll try dvd decrypter. btw can I run multiple instances of it and vip multiple VOB files to the hd at once? I have 2 DVD drives in my desktop, plus an external one I use with my laptop. It would be great if I could use all 3 at once there.

What actual detail do they say you can do? Can you provide a source?!

Oh whoops, it's actually for educational purposes or "criticism", whatever... anyway, I feel it's perfectly fine to rip a dvd I OWN for MY PERSONAL USE. It's one thing if I'm doing that so I can view the content on a netbook or smartphone that lacks a DVD drive, it's quite another if I'm posting it on bittorrent for thousands to view.

It is impossible DMCA clearly stat that ripping DVDs is legal. However DMCA does not say that DVD owners can not rip DVD for personal usage.

I agree. Magic DVD Ripper does the ripping job very well. I'm pretty sure the guys who supply ripped movies in torrent sites like piratebay use this software. They actually have a mother's day sale going on. $60 for a fully licensed software is not that bad.

There are so many DVD rippers in the related market, I really cannot figure out what a good one is, I think they are similiar. However, if you want to choose a suitable DVD ripper, there are several factors you should take into consideration. The first one is the import issue, that is, does the DVD ripper you choose can import the DVD disc that you have. I have met this kind of problem that my chosen DVD ripper cannot import my HD DVD, it can only import some common DVDs. Secondly, you should consider the ripping speed, the faster the better. Lastly, the output quality, if the DVD ripper can help you rip DVDs with good quality, I think it is good enough. Anyhow, I hope you can find your one as soon as possible.

Do you want to make a exact copy or convert to another format to play on another device or backup and maybe compress as safekeeping? Depending on what you want there are different products specialized in each.

I'm a member of GiveAwayOfTheDay.com. Membership is FREE. Everyday they send me an E-mail about software that is downloadable & FREE. This is software that you'd normally have to pay for, but it's FREE if you DL & install it within the 24 hr time limits. You can install the software on as many computers as you want, as long as it's installed before the end of the 24 hr. time limit. The software is always Fully Functional & you are registered as a legitimate owner.

I've DL'ed & installed a bunch of DVD & Blu-Rippers from G.O.T.D. Some are Good, other are Better. DVD/Blu-Rippers are a common Free Software from G.O.T.D. If for some reason you don't like the software, Just REVO it & GLAREY the Registry.
