I keep trying to sync my ipad and ipod touch to my itunes library on my Macbook Pro, however, itunes is not recognizing any of my hardware and the products just sit there charging. I have the latest version of itunes and I read on another thread the same problem and the advice was to download itunes again, which I did, and it worked but now I am having the same problem once again. I do not think there is anything wrong with my computer or the ipad/ipod touch because both show up as plugged in under my system profile. Any solution? Do I need third party tool like personal audio cloud to transfer the music to my iPod over wireless network?

Did you change any drivers or any software since the last time it worked?

Meaning did it just stop working one day or did you add a program/remove or add hardware....

You could try downloading iTunes again to try to getting it working again. If it does work again, then sync the iPad and/or iPod Touch so that both are backed up. Then try resetting the iPad and iPod Touch. This will clear all the data on both. You should be able to then sync and restore both. And maybe that will clear things up.

Have you tried resetting the iPad and/or iPod Touch? Note that this will nuke everything on the device, so if there is stuff that you ONLY have on that device, then that might be a problem.

Do you live anywhere near an Apple Store? If so, you could make a "Genius" appointment and take your computer and iPad and iPod into the Apple Store and see if they can help you getting them to sync.

As to "streaming" or "cloud" solutions, there are a couple options to consider.

The first that part of Apple's new cloud services are basically online. That part has to deal with being about to have music downloaded to you devices from the iTunes Store rather than just having to sync with iTunes. You can have this done automatically or you can do it manually. You need to have iTunes 10.4, I believe. It will work with both the iPad and iPad 2, but will only work with the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch versions. You can read about it here:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/whats-new/

Note: If you have not already tried this version of iTunes, then it might also cure your problem with syncing.

Now, the other thing to note is that this will ONLY work with music. It does not apply to movies or TV shows.

The other two options are to do some "third party" streaming.

The first option is to try Amazon's Cloud Player. It is mainly designed to work with any MP3s that you purchase from Amazon, but you can also upload your own MP3 or AAC files...how many you can upload depends on whether you are doing the free version (5 GB limit, I believe) or the paid version (unlimited, I believe). Now, the two obvious downsides to this are 1) you will have to upload any music you want to the Amazon server, which could be a hassle and take some time; and 2) in order to play your music, you have to have an Internet connection as they are all stored on Amazon's servers. If you want to look at this option, then here is the info:

http://www.amazon.co...rd_i=2658409011

The second option is one where you stream the music from your Mac to the iPad or iPod. You can do this using AirPlay, but you will need a third part application called AirFoil (http://www.rogueamoe...om/airfoil/mac/). The difference between this and the Amazon is that the music is still just stored on your local computer (i.e. your MBP), which means you do not need to upload it somewhere. Like the Amazon option, it still requires a network connection. The downside of this option compared to the Amazon one is that it will ONLY work on your local network at home. Once you leave the house with your iPad or iPod, you will not have access to that music.

As to syncing your music wirelessly, there is currently no way to do that...at least that I am aware of (without jailbreaking the device...there might be ways to do it if it is jailbroken). The only way to get that music on your iPad or iPod at the moment is to sync it with iTunes using the wire sync cable. When iOS 5 comes out sometime in the fall, you will have the option of using a wireless sync to iTunes, but it will still be going through iTunes, so my guess is that if you still cannot sync using a wire with iTunes, then the wireless sync likely won't work either.
