I just did a custom install of Windows 7 (from Vista Ultimate) on my laptop. My Hannspree HF225 monitor was working perfectly before, but now Windows 7 is not recognizing it. I have checked the connection (it's fine) and my system tells me that my video card drivers are up to date. My HF225 is compatible with Windows 7.
I am using a laptop - it's an Inspiron 1520 with a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. My laptop monitor is working just fine, but the external monitor shows the error message: No Signal Input, Check Video Cable. I located the CD that came with my monitor and installed the driver, but now my laptop monitor is labeled as a Hannspree monitor, which is of course wrong.
So I need to know what to do to get Windows 7 to acknowledge the existence of my external monitor, and also how to change the name of the laptop monitor back to what it was before.
Anyone have any suggestions???? Please help!!

Windows 7 Not Seeing My External Monitor

Yes!!! I figured it out. Problem was, Windows 7 was not seeing my video card correctly. I looked back at the paperwork from when I bought the laptop, identified the video card (NVidea GeForce 8400M), went to the NVidea website and easily found the right driver for Windows 7. The driver installed, along with the NVidea Control Panel. Right away, my external monitor was recognized. Then, all I had to do was configure it the way I wanted it in the NVidea Control Panel. Problem solved! Yes!!!

Yeah the generic driver only allows 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and (I think) 1280x1024, ONE monitor. Your solution was exactly what I would've suggested.
Also, if you uninstall the monitor (internal) in device manager, reboot, it should show up again. Make sure your external one is plugged in and on, so that'll still work while the internal one is temporairly disabled; it'll be redetected upon rebooting.
