Bad kitty!
Did your dad do the Snow Leopard upgrade to Migration Assistant before he upgraded to Lion? I don't know if that would really have an impact or not, but Apple did have a update that fixed some issues with using Migration Assistant from a Snow Leopard machine to a Lion machine (they have/had a separate one for "regular" Leopard as well). While he obviously did not use the Migration Assistant (unless he took an "odd" upgrade path), it is possible that maybe the upgrade process somehow uses the same stuff when upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion...and if that update had not been applied, then maybe some settings got hosed.

Also, it randomly pops up a message that it couldn't connect to the server 'iBook'. We had an ibook - several years ago, LONG before we got this current PC. (he had a mac pro desktop before his current mbp, and during a little of the time he had the mac pro he had an ibook) We never had the ibook and mbp at the same time. I can't find anything in itunes (file sharing) or in the file sharing settings in 'System Preferences'. Any idea?

My guess is that it is some old setting that is somehow hosed. It could be tied to the Migration Assistant update that I mentioned. You might check the Keychain (that is where Apple stores your "credentials" for things like WiFi networks, server logins, etc). Otherwise it might be some plist somewhere...don't ask me where.

Has he updated to 10.7.1? If so, Apple forums will be able to help.
But that is the first time I've heard of an error relating to an Automount on a server. I do not know how to manage unless it's in the dock...
When on the Finder, hit Command + K are there servers in that list? If so, what are they? (screenshot)

Safe mode might have done it. Sometimes stuff gets "screwy" and a Safe mode boot can "smack'm around and straighten'm out". I had that with my MacBook Air. For some reason, some of the System Pref panes started crashing when I went to them. For example, when I tried to go to the Network System Pref pane, System Pref would crash (computer was still running and fine...just crashed out of the System Prefs). There were about a half dozen other System Pref panes that did the same thing. I was having not luck getting it to fix and was close to either re-installing the OS from the supplied restore USB drive or maybe take it to the Apple Store near me for "Genius" appointment. But, then I thought to do a Safe Mode boot...and that fixed it.

Oh btw how did you do that with your sig, making it hide automatically? I haven't found a way to do it. That's exactly what I'd like to do with mine so my posts are shorter.
