Thee tricks, creating pretend fanbases and momentums are their staple diet of PR..
Microsoft are huge in this area, for example, they can create a fake fanbase of Xbox owners and get 30m dipshit owners to follow them into purchasing the worst consumer item of all time. The exact same thing is repeating itself again with Microsoft and their new Windows Phone platform that nobody cares about, there are fake people selling it's virtues all over the place.

I've always thought of Facebook as a public confession booth. Was Schmidt suggesting that Facebook is just for those with something to hide??????......... LOL Where is this going?
But I think you've hit the nail on the head, Ed.

Then again, most people can be followed at least some of the times.

Wouldn't it be nice for a government to know that much about you?
Maybe I am just getting paranoid in my old age! But dang, people sure are free with their personal info, aren't they?

Of course Google and Facebook want your real name. You are the "product" that they "market" to individuals who would like to purchase. How else do you think they make all their money? Ads and your personal information (and photos as well, I might add). The only site doing privacy RIGHT in my eyes is ONLYMEWORLD. I'm loving the fact that I don't even need to use a real name or e-mail address to join. How rare of a find that is these days.

like the quote says " Absolute power Absolutely currupts " google with all their Billions of dollars and and the ability to just buy out any of the competition that they want to has no reason to be a fair and just company, they can get away with anything they want ..... if another company stands in their way , buy it crush it, if the laws stand in their way , buy the politicians and have the laws changed ... why on earth would anybody actually believe that google is looking out for their best interests? it's a company in business to make money

B - To Use The Account, That User Must Follow Those Rules Before Its 'REAL NAME' Is Allowed.
C - When Full Account Functionality Is Granted, How Can GOOGLE Confirm That It Is, Indeed, Its 'REAL NAME' ?
D - If, 'On The Internet, Nobody Knows You Are A Dog', Why Bother ?

Feel free to trust Google with your personal/private information if you chose; just don't expect that all should be so foolish.

Only put online what you want them to know. If you want privacy get a land line and call people on the telephone. It's the only secure way to talk to someone that is not mined for information, other than a face to face! Not from your desk at work either. Those calls are readily recorded.
If your privacy is so important to you, use separate browses and monitor what goes in and out of your computer. Firefox has an excellent set of detection apps that will stop any information from leaving your computer that you don't want other people to have. Use Chrome for Gmail and Google + and lock the thing down so only what you want gets out. In other words don't be clicking on Canadian Pharma ads unless that's what you really want to do. Don't type anything in the browser unless it's something you want Google to know about you.
And, you know that smartphone you have in your hand waiting for he next status update from FB? GET RID OF THE DAMN THING! Not one single person on the face of this earth should be able to have so much control over you that you have to rely on a piece of machinery! That's why you were given a brain, to think for yourself.
