This article actually manages to say almost nothing. “Apple makes a lot of noise about the size of its iOS app store, and there's something to be said for selection, sure. But in my view, having the most apps isn't the same as having the best apps, and I generally like what I get with Android more.” Translation: The author prefers Android. Great but I thought this article was about the Amazon app store vs Android Market not iOS vs Android.
The second paragraph at least segues onto the proclaimed topic. Mobile security is important – especially given the weakness of Android to malware – so a vetted app store is an interesting topic. Now here the author could have provided some details of how Amazon vets its app store, the selection of apps compared to Google, etc. At least the author did talk a bit about how Amazon vets apps – by modifying them presumably after looking through their code. I wonder how that will work if Amazon has tens of thousands of apps to review but I guess that they can try.
My favorite part of the fourth paragraph is when the author says “Until Amazon revises its app review process to more proactively weed out potentially harmful apps, I'm less inclined to do any downloading from the Android Market,” Opps – guess he meant Google. Does PCWorld even have editors? Maybe they could pay Amazon to vet their articles – this one could use some rewriting.

PhillyPhan23, the key to being a good journalist is being able to write an article with no content and get page hist, that is what Robert has done.

I love the Amazon App Store. I check it everyday to see what the free app of the day is. I've gotten Angry Birds, Plants-vs-Zombies, WiFi File Explorer, FieldRunners HD, and dozens of other paid apps for free.
That being said the Android Market is still the place to get apps you can't get anywhere else, not even in the Cydia Store for iOS devices. Apps like MP3 Downloader Pro, tTorrent, and AndroZip make the Android Market and Android os king.

HenryYoungbt1s,
Replace "good journalist" with "successful journalist" and I agree with you.

True because you can be successful at something and not be that great at it. I know a bunch of successful software editors who suck at testing and reviewing apps yet get a ton of views because their success at always rating the new version as well not just one version in 3 years.
To me PC World started going downhill when Steve Bass left. There hasn't been a decent editor since. Everyone seems to now either force their person opinion without even trying the other product or recommend products they are paid to recommend. Rarely will you see an editor actually do research now and give an honest opinion that isn't driven by personal opinion or money.

Hello--PCWorld copy editor here. As PhillyPhan23 points out above, the author of this piece accidentally wrote "Amazon" when he meant "Google"; the slip-up occurred in the fifth paragraph. I have corrected the error.
Thanks for reading.

That Free App Per Day deal is nice too. I've found several apps that, like Swiftkey X, I use a LOT. I check it EVERY DAY.

Personally I use a combination of the Amazon App Store and the Android Market. I'd be willing to try out the Verizon App Store, but I find Verizon can be a tad annoying with their self promotion, so I'm a little hesitant about that one. All in all, I agree with the author. After being stuck on an iOS device for 2 years, it's nice to finally be on a platform where I use multiple App Stores.
