IPS generally means better color (speaking of which, why the hell was my sony set to bluish 9300K by default? It has presets for both 9300K and 6500K, and that was fairly expensive, even by 2004 standards). btw LED monitors use around 1/2 the energy of a fluorescent backlit one. (if they don't say, it's probably florescent, all the older ones are) btw some of the LED ones have a power brick, but that's not a big issue for the most part.
So I take it you want a 23" 1920x1080 screen? What about this: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824236117 Note: it looks like that has internal speakers, but I'll bet you that those sound like crap (my sony has "SRS WOW" tech - I think of it as WOW how bad can speakers be????). My sony has those and they are full of echo, have absolutely no low tones whatsoever, and in general sound worse than bad laptop speakers. Basically, I don't use them at all. The asus has dvi, vga, and hdmi - use dvi or hdmi if you can, as those are digital. VGA isn't as good, and I've heard that with higher resolutions like that there is a quality loss. I don't notice any on my VGA connected samsung 914V though. But that's only 1280x1024.
How about this? http://accessories.u...en&sku=a0133841

Well the size can be better, but I am comfortable with the pricing of most 1920x1080 23" Monitors that I have seen.
As far as Asus monitors that I looked at, they have a very strange inverted tilt...but not an issue if it is the right monitor for me.
NewEgg is only displaying 15 monitors right now...I swear NewEgg had more monitors...did I do something wrong in my search? I just went under the drop downs on the page and clicked "Monitors"
The last suggestion, I think a flat monitor is for me. I don't know if my space/computer stand can handle a beast like that!
Now as far as display settings, most monitors have "home" settings to change everything...are most of them automatically set to max resolution or is that a feature I have to run through whatever game I am on/home settings, or can I easily "juice up" the picture?

When you're installed the video driver and rebooted, things should be set to the correct resolution. If not, right-click the desktop, and under screen resolutions select '1920x1080', which should be highest. You can tweak the gamma, brightness, and contrast on the monitor to make it look good. Many have presets like 'movie, game, pc'.... I use 'movie' with gamma 4 (out of 4 settings) because it looks good on this one. Also, you'll want to make sure that it's set to 6500K color (many have presets for that and 9300K) because 9300K looks bluish and terrible. Most are preset to 6500K anyway by default. But for some reason my sony wasn't...
Now what do you mean a flat monitor? Come on, we're not dealing with big fat CRTs here, ok?
oh btw if you need some wallpaper, I just happened to start a discussion here: http://forums.pcworl...310#entry527310

Thank you for the pointers, newer end monitors will also a first time purchase, so that helps a lot.
I just meant that...well the monitors are probably just as good! Not hating on any kind of monitor, just saying my preference!
I posted in the wallpaper discussion not knowing you had me linked to it in this conversation lol. Already on it!
Wow Asus pretty much dominates the monitor land at NewEgg...that one you showed me in your previous post looks reallllyyyy nice! I'll have my eye on that one for a while.

Hey BLuRR, IN short, go with the Samsung at Newegg, I am using a 22" model, and that one is a good one ( I don't have full HD with this one ).

I've never had an issue with the 'egg and I'll definitely go back there the next time I want to buy something. Although amazon finally said they'd come to an agreement about the CA sales tax law, I'm still a bit suspicious and will be avoiding them if possible for now.
