You can have custom ringtones in Mango, exactly how you described with WinMo using MP3s.

Thanks. I didn't see any way within Mango, and my searches came up empty. I'll check out that URL and maybe scratch one of my pet peeves off the list.

You can install Microsoft outlook connector and sync your Hotmail and outlook contact. Once synced to your Hotmail it will show up in people hub.

Custom ringtones are easy enough. In the Zune software, change the Genre of an MP3 or WMA to Ringtone, sync it to the phone and it will become available as a ringtone.

The biggest problem with WP7 is that it totally breaks the data connection between a user's computer and WP7. Wired or wireless syncing is different than being able to directly sync data, contacts, tasks, etc. MS allows only direct syncing of media. MS forces data through "the cloud" even though the computer and WP7 phone are inches apart.

Yes, a convoluted way of syncing initially, but once working it's really great. WP7 is designed to integrate with the cloud (Windows Live) which is why it's done this way.

Plus, don't forget that WP7 will automatically sync all of your Facebook contacts too, as long as you have that enabled on the phone.

BTW, if your company uses Microsoft Outlook Exchange Server, then all your contacts will be synced automatically without having to install the Hotmail connector for Outlook.

I have recently come across the screenshot issue.
In my case, though, it was on an android phone. A message came up in the default language (Hebrew) for that phone and my Hebrew is terrible. I couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot to capture the error and I didn't have a pen and paper with me (so I could look it up in Google translate).
I had to search for someone who could translate for me. What should have taken seconds to resolve if I had a screenshot instead took over twenty minutes (just to find a translator).

MS is bringing back the Outlook / phone connection. There's been enough noise made about that to make them listen.

Custom Ringtones work (as others have pointed out) I currently have my old CTU Ringtone set on my HTC Arrive so can verify first hand.

The lack of screen capture does kinda suck for the people that care about them. I actually liked my old WM6.5 where I had an app that let me control the phone as a whole from my PC.

You CAN create custom ringtones in Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango). Do the research.

My contacts are sync quite easily. Must be something you're doing. I'm still using Windows Phone 7, not 7.5.

@AdasWeber0zg6 That is actually a pretty cool interactive tool. It just walks through the same steps I already went through, though, which syncs Outlook with Hotmail or Windows Live so Windows Phone 7 can then sync that same data from the cloud.

@Tony
Good to see you found a workaround for your Outlook contacts. A majority of Outlook users have exchange behind it so the syncing part happens automatically.

I'm actually looking forward to custom ringtones in Mango, as I totally agree that stock ringtones suck in your tester and my Dell Venue Pro.

Have you ever heard of exchange?

I actually like to use Windows live as my main hub for contacts and calendar. I made the swtich last year from gmail and such. Windows Live is a poor man's exchange, PERIOD!

I use this set up to sync between my PC(s), Mac, iPad(s), iphone(when I had it), and now WinPhone7 (Focus). I only hate that windows live needs the outlook connector installed to sync with Outlook... Windows live mail syncs perfectly and so does Outlook (with the connector).

Yeah, It is a crazy way of setting it up, but the cool thing about windows live is that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS TO USE THE EXCHANGE FEATURES OR CALENDAR OR CONTACT SYNCING!!! Go make a new user account in windows live and use your current email address as the sign in name. Be it gmail, yahoo, hotmail, or your own domain, it will allow you to connect. The only thing with that is that it will not sync your mail. So what... You already have somthing in place for that right?! Besides that, having a windows live account with the free 25GB of storage is awsome now and will be even better with mango. Finally does docs that I sync to my account will be accessable from my phone and my future windows tablet.

To sum it up, find a better Exchange alternative to Windows Live... That works as it should and syncs with ALL DEVICES AND COMPUTERS. BTW, to syn with iOS using a windows live account, set it up as a Exchange account. You will be SO HAPPY.

I cant imagine some one not liking this setup. Shoot, maybe they have never used exchange. I wish I had my own person exchange server, lol.

Love the articles BTW! Man, I want to support you all financially, but the mag cant beat online. I would not pay to access it online either... But it is articles like these that sets you all apart. Give me and others more exclusive articles from peoples opinions and reviews. Step out there on a limb and be honest (good and bad). I can get news from anywhere. I am tired of the same 7/8 reviews accross the board because of relationships or straight trashing other things because it is trendy. BE PCWORLD. BE ONE. BE DIFFERENT!!! Since I was a young teen, I have been buying your mag. Now Im 25, I am still here. Make me bite :)
